Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandThe old character of the hotel was bought to life with contemporary decor and design. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Location is centrally located in the CBD close to restaurants and bars. With great options for fitness along the shoreline pathways, and swimming at the Marine Parade public pool across the road.

United States• Parking is a challenge. • The street lights on Emerson Street are very bright. Blackout curtains would be a good idea.
• Unique property in the heart of Napier, within easy walking distance of the Art Deco centre and coastal promenade. • Beautifully furnished rooms, everyone is different. • Guest laundry - yay! • Lots of dining options close by, including some on site.

AustraliaEven with grab rails the step up into the shower-over-bath is a challenge and possible safety risk for older people or those with challenges (eg., large or frail people).
Very comfortable bed. I liked that the room opened onto a terrace looking towards the bay.

AustraliaInternal stairs to reach our apartment which we were not aware of. Important for older visitors to know this before booking. No Hotel staff to help with luggage to apartment, 3 ladies in their seventies left to do this themselves. Couches need restoring, springs sagging. Microwave was dirty when we moved in.
Central location, art deco style. Beds comfy. Nice little outdoor area for sitting. Food at the downstairs restaurant really good. This is not operated by the hotel but it is certainly an asset having it in the building. Staff here were amazing, friendly and helpful.

AustraliaParking is the biggest problem, as the hotel does not have local parking. There is an area provided for hotel guests about a block away. As we were staying there over the weekend, we were advised to park on the street as there was no time limit. We were lucky as we found a spot right out the front. In the booking information provided by Booking.com, it stated that the Deluxe Studio room had a patio. The staff acknowledged that this was incorrect and would update the Bookings.com page. Our room was at the rear of the property.
The Art Deco Masonic Hotel was exactly what we wanted. It had so much character and we loved every minute there. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room was quite spacious and had been quite tastefully upgraded recently. The hotel is perfectly located, and within walking distance of the central Napier sites. We opted to enjoy the walking tour provided by the Art Deco Trust, which is located just across the road next to the museum.

United KingdomWould have benefited from hair towels rather than just bath towels. No one spoke to us or greeted us from the moment we arrived to when we left after breakfast. I don't expect attention but a simple welcome or good morning would have been kind and appropriate. It would have been good to know where to put the keys when we left.
The room was well equipped and comfortable. Breakfast was lovely.

CanadaThere is no parking included on site, so you need to offload luggage and then park/pay nearby in designated location.
This hotel highlights the Art Deco style with decor and antique pieces throughout. A beautiful 2nd floor balcony, with access from several of the rooms, overlooks the promenade and the bay.
