Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomKitchen/dining a little chaotic when more than 3 people trying to make dinner.
Very quiet location, essentially in the heart of Paihia but not busy at all. Clientele of all ages not just young backpackers. Wooden bunk beds meant no squeaking beds when moving. 12pm check-in rather than usual 3pm

United KingdomIt was all very good. Very basic but that is what I was expecting considering the price point. No complaints at all.
Brilliant location and really friendly and helpful staff. I'd messed my booking up a bit and didn't book my last night in properly but they promptly sorted me out. Really nice facilities, showers, toilets and cooking / leisure.

United StatesThere wasn't anything in particular that I didn't like. I was expecting a basic room with an attached bath and that is what I got. No complaints at all.
My sister and I spent 5 nights here. The location was excellent. For any of the local "tours" you can easily walk to the pickup point. Restaurants and smaller stores are within a block or two. There is a grocery store within walking distance, as well. Parking is available on site, but limited in the number of spaces. Most of the people staying here were very much younger than my sister and I, and I enjoyed talking to them. Staff was very helpful.

FinlandThe kitchen was not as clean and tidy as my room was. No lights outside when you left the room before sun rise.
Location is central, near the water front and close to the shops and bus station. My room was nice and clean. It was quite quiet there at night and I got to sleep ok. The town is really nice and there are good walks on the coast and in Russell. It was great having a fridge and an electric kettle in my room. And nice getting little things like soap bars, tea, coffee and milk, although I didn't need it all. The staff also responded to requests. And nice early check-in time at 12, and storing luggage after check-out time was possible.

KazakhstanParking space is limited, 'First come, first serve' might leave you without parking even outside the lodge.
The studio was great; it included a deck, a kitchenette, and its facilities. Situated on a peaceful street, it is close to both the town centre and the sea. Excellent value for the money overall.

New ZealandAltogether there was hardly anything which I did not like. I could see that the place was older and cleaning is probably more difficult than in new houses. So it was not spot clean. I would have liked the staircase up to the dormitory and office to have a light at night. It was completely dark. I was also searching for a socket to charge my mobile and could not find one. But in summary, there was really nothing much to complain.
I was in a 6 bed dormitory. I liked that there were a number of openable windows. The other guest were really nice. The price was also very good for the location. The mattress was super, not too hard and not too soft. The check in was easy.

New Zealandthe room was hot even though there was a fan provided it was hot. I think it was due to no throughfare ventilation. A fan cannot cool a room with warm or hot air.
The outside area to relax was great and the proximity to the centre of Paihia and the restaurants was perfect.

CanadaMy only criticism is the number of toilets and showers. There was only one on the top floor and another on the bottom floor.
I really enjoyed my stay at Centabay, even though it was for one night. Lots of light and air circulation in the rooms. Beds were comfy and sheets were clean. I didn't use the kitchen but it seemed fully stocked. Very walkable location with restaurants close by. Pleasant walk to Waitangi Treaty Grounds and the beach too.

United KingdomFor the coffee drinkers among us there was a bit of pressure on the solitary expresso maker. The shower cubicles were a bit of a squeeze but otherwise all good!
The staff were really friendly and helpful. The hostel was centrally located close to the ferry. The showers were lovely and hot.

AustraliaOn one night, a staff member raised his voice at a group of guests for talking even though it was before the designated "quiet time". He was quite rude and made more noise than the guests he was telling off. Not enough bathroom facilities.
The public areas are very nice, with a hot spa and hammocks. Great location within walking distance from the centre of Paihia, beach and short drive to Waitangi and Haruru Falls. Plenty of parking, either at the Lodge or on the street outside.
