How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The property was very easy to find- Margret made our stay very welcoming and relaxing. Her facilities were clean and had all the essentials for cooking and even coffee and tea provided. Highly recommend a night or two with a beautiful view of the Mangawhai Heads beach and sand dunes.

Just needed an electric frypan.

Even though we only had a single overnight stay at Chalet Cullen, we must say it’s on our top ten experiences of what we have had during our 6 weeks vacation in New Zealand. The unit was fine and cozy, and with a great view to the beach. The local radio station (FM 90.4) plays pop/rock from the good old days. What’s not to like. We can only give our best recommendations.

No faults found.
We didn't arrive on our check-in time and I wasn't able to message our hostess (I was out of coverage). However, Margaret was so relaxed and welcoming when we did finally arrive, and brushed away my apologies. She is charming and, as I say, very welcoming.

Couch is a bit uncomfortable.
Nice little cabin for a mini break, has everything you need. Clean and tidy. Owners friendly and welcoming. Cabin is private, cozy and quiet.

Lovely studio apartment with a view of the sand dunes sea. Very clean and comfortable. We appreciated the kitchenette. It was close to the Mangawhei Coastal Walkway.

The pillows were average and we smacked our legs on the bed frame multiple times because it sticks out. Would have liked to be provided with milk but we bought a bottle so no worries.
Short drive to the beach or estuary. Were provided with all we needed. Privacy was respected. Lovely garden. Very spacious. Good shower pressure.

Nothing at all. Perfect. We have hiked, backpacked and travelled a lot overseas in Europe, Canada and UK. Usually staying in smaller type accommodations and this has to be one of the best we have found.
It's not often you find a small cottage that seems so spacious . There was such a calm ambience about the space. The night was quiet with birdsong in the morning. Bed was really comfortable and great airflow by opening a few windows on these humid nights.. There was a separate small 'room ' for keeping our luggage away from the one bedroom/lounge/kitchen space so we weren't tripping over our bags. Small touches like some orchard fruit in a bowl, handee towels in the cupboard, simple instructions re radio stations, local eateries etc made us feel that Margaret cares about comfort for her guests. We only stayed one night but have already recommended it to others and wish we had been able to stay longer. Great communication with the host. We were unsure what time we would arrive and she messaged 'no worries...key will be in the door'. She popped out on our arrival to say hello and recommend a swimming spot and the next morning popped out to say goodbye.... but otherwise she allowed us our privacy which we appreciated. Her house is next door but at no time did we feel we were intruded upon. This is a really gem!

The bed is very creaky so when you move it creeks. The other issue we had was we were watching tv and it stopped working as the wifi plan had run out of data so couldn’t use the wifi or watch tv

Very comfortable accommodation, filled with light, very clean, with cheerful colour scheme. Comfortable bed, fresh linen, good shower. Beautiful views. Close to the surfing beach and coastal walks. Friendly hosts.
