How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. I think they need to invest in Netflix or get more tv channels just if u wanted to watch news etc just found it odd you could only get 4 channels 2 racing channels 1 building channel 1 god chanel would if been nice to seen news etc

The hallway smelled of cigarettes.
Close to shops and the parking is great. Super clean room and comfortable bed.

Checkin desk was just a table at the entrance which was unmanned. I had to wait for 15 mins in the cold and if not for somebody exiting the building, I would not know how to enter it. It turns out that I had to call somebody to get a code so that I can open a lock box to access the building and room key. The room was thankfully clean but it fell short of what I expected especially given the reviews I have seen. I also did not feel safe in the area as the hotel seems to be located in a rundown part of town.

As I booked last minute, maybe that can explain some of this, or maybe it is his manner / their practice in general, but I arrived while the man was cleaning his Uber - he was very impatient and not particularly friendly. The towels in the bathroom had just been dumped (folded but messy and uninviting). There were no face cloths. Needs a good clean! 2 lightbulbs were out. Picture not hung straight - just seems like current management/ staff don't care. Also, not the fault of the Lodge, but my car got broken into in the carpark - they explicitly mention they are not liable for any damages or losses in a way that make me wonder if it's a hotspot for theft / damage.
Nice tidy room but lacks care. Was a good price as a last minute booking.

My card didn't go through due to a date change and I received notification at 4:13pm. Within 30 mins I had sent over new details (it said I had 2 hours to do this) and by 5pm we were at the property. I JUST caught the property manager to check in. He stated "it's a holiday I'm just leaving". The message from the property indicated checking till 9pm and didn't state anything about the holiday affecting these hours. Before he left I made sure we had 2 beds as requested/chosen in the original booking. We did not and he scrambled to change the bed to 2 throwing all the other bed linen in our closet. No toilet paper on the holder ( although we found some under the counter). Makes me wonder if they were ever had our room made up properly??? Feel there is better in Christchurch for this price point and better location.
The room was comfortable enough and obviously recently updated. Kettle, toaster and fridge with minimal utensils. Would be nice to even have papertowel or plates something in the room if providing a toaster. Some good breweries around and other places for food.

We only stayed one night so we didn't really find anything to dislike.
I liked how affordable this was and that there was free parking. The place smelled really nice on arrival too.

The check-in process with a code for the back door & another code for the key safe at the front door was very confusing. TV was missing from wall which was odd

No reception staff present at hotel while we were there, although were very responsive remotely by phone. Had a room with a skylight window (no other window). If there was a way of controlling this then we didn't figure it out so didn't have any natural light. It opened automatically at 4.30am and then shut a few mins later, waking us up and making room very cold. Wouldn't bother paying extra for the skylight window again.
Location was convenient for city and room was in great condition and very clean. Good basic accommodation for anyone looking for somewhere to sleep and shower.

Could have had directions on walls which way for front door and back. Bit confused with key pick up as we had parked in carpark but didn't then know where to go.

Could not resolve any issues via phoning the accommodation. Using the booking.com app was a lot better

Was advertised as having dining table, chairs, microwave, toaster, crockery and clock/alarm. Had none of these, only tea/coffee making facilities and one set of cutlery.
