How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

I had a pleasant stay in the backpackers. Service was upto mark. Rooms well kept. After checking inn everything was very well arranged and Nothing needed to be changed. Felt freshness in the room due to the cleanliness maintained. The ambience of the place is also scenic. It stimulates relaxing furthermore. Highly recommended.

Nothing, it's one of the best hostels I ever stayed
The staff is great, everyone is friendly and helpful. It's located really close to the intercity bus stop, the supermarket and the city centre. The place is very cozy, comfy beds and nice common areas.

Our room was right next to the upstairs kitchen so the smell coming from people cooking was pretty bad and very noisy at night. I asked the staff wether we could change rooms but it was all booked.

bed without curtain and makes a lot of noise when you climb into the top bunk. The closet has no hangers. The kitchen is very small. Guests stay talking until late at night and you can hear everything in the room.

The kitchen was so tiny and they didn’t have basic things like a French press or can opener. The hot tub was not hot at all…

Lack of facilities. The kitchen is tiny and awkward to try and share the space. Nowhere near enough bathrooms. Having a hot tub is a luxury but it wasn't working when I stayed, so quite disappointing.
Great location, close to everything you need. Very friendly staff and a resident cat. The dorm room was spacious and had lockers. Nice al-fresco setup with colourful themes.

Kitchen is basic, not much of a common area, the small rooms crammed with 6 beds lacked ventillation and one could hardly breathe in the room by morning.
Nice location in Rotorua. They also have a hot tub that looked nice.

I didn't like that there were no power points near my bed, there was no individual bunk light. In front of the hostel is a high crime place for parked cars.
I liked that the communal spaces were nice and encouraged conversation with others, and the hostel cat. The kitchen had enough facilities to cook a small meal.

The beds are super shaky compared to other bunk beds. There are not enough showers and some of the toilets don't have sinks to wash your hands. But what I found really unpleasant was the rudeness of some of the staff members. The guy on the morning shift just completely ignored me, never replied to my "good morning" etc. Just very unprofessional and sadly not making guests feel welcome. Hope they do better in the future.
The dorm was good, it even had a sink and also enough space to store some food. The location is really good. Overall it was quite clean.

No airconditioning so you have to open the windows and get the horrible smell that's all over town inside, when your bunkmate moves you will know

No privacy curtains and firm mattresses.
Multiple kitchens and washrooms which was good. The location was within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and grocery stores. The staff were amazing, friendly and very helpful!

Rooms were hot and got quite smelly. The top bunks could really do with a light and shelf for your belongings. Bathroom facilities were quite dated and although there are 2 kitchens, they’re quite small and difficult to cook in

It was quite shabby, run down and the communal areas were messy, rubbish bins and discarded signs, plastic roofing and such. There's was only 1 unshaded ceiling light in the accommodation so everyone that came in had to turn the main light on, could do with little clip on lights on each bunk.
It was easy to find, easy to get to by car with free parking right outside. Staff member that booked me in was pleasant, professional and showed me around. I noticed he was thoroughly cleaning up a well.

One shower only had cold water and the showers in general could use an upgrade.
We had a cozy, clean room and the staff were really friendly. Its a good place to stay for a couple of nights.
