It was dated . I didn't realise most of the accommodation was in a later built addition of the building when i booked it & had no old world charm, however our room opened on to a long patio with access & views to the garden. There was no breakfast option.. even if you brought your own.. no utensils or microwave etc. Shower was good

Quaint homestead/bar/ restaurant from the 1800s. The gardens with pond, bridges & ducks were nice to walk around and sit on the patio to have a beverage before or after a meal. It was a distance out of town but if you've had a full day swimming & sightseeing it offered everything you needed to stay put for the end of your day with a comfy bed & good shower & nice towels

Stayed Saturday night during a holiday weekend so understandably busy and a little more expensive than usual. Great gardens and bar, rooms are OK but could do with some TLC. Good food and atmosphere in the bar.

Kate and James and staff were super friendly and nothing was a problem or inconvenience for them

Very limited vegetarian options for food, the beds weren't super comfortable, and the bathroom wasn't that nice/clean.

Good value, we could get dinner at the location (it was rainy and we were tired), the food was good! The room was spacious, there was a great view of a deck and gardens, there was a heated towel rack, and the staff were very nice and even gave us an upgrade!

    Nothing to add

The accommodation was a little dated but spotlessly clean. The access to the wide deck led to a large grassed area and gardens, which was ideal for the grandchildren to play. If you are looking for different things to see and do whilst in Kaikoura, have a chat with Ross. The bar and restaurant with excellent food was the icing to the trip.

An air con or fan in the room would've have been nice, it was quite warm. An iron also would've been nice as an extra amenitie

Place was beautiful. The meal was delicious and generous servings. Walking around the property after dinner was nice. Would defa stay here again. So nice to read all the history on the walls too

appearance as entered Reception or arrival outside . Would not take alot of work just to sweep the Main Entrance areas x2 outside Car parking areas. Our door entrance from car park side had Big cobwebs on door frames. Easy to get rid of. As entered Entrance to hotel and accomodation from car park area very untidy. Linen Bags and Clening material all piled up. Area could do with a freshening up and store hotel room essentials for staff in a different area

General atmosphere of staff and surrounds. All the historical photos and detail of the Boyd and other families. Beautiful setting. We had to change the date by one day due to medical emergency. Staff were very understanding and accommodating and gave us an upgrade. Very unexpected and grateful. Good pub food.

The Wi-Fi wasn't available in the room only near the main dining area.

The grounds were lovely and we enjoyed the restaurant, especially as the property is a bit out of town.

The charm of the building, its history, its gardens and views. It’s pricing. It’s availability of food and drinks. Owner and staff very welcoming and accommodating.
