How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The location was fantastic. The hotel was surrounded by a beautiful park at the back and an astonishing crystal clear blue lake at the side. Shops and eateries only steps away. The room was spacious, big comfortable beds and fluffy pillows. Individual body bath, shampoo,and conditioner provided. Not those 3 in 1 stuff. Would highly recommend staying here when visiting Queenstown, NZ for a great experience.

We booked a standard king room. A little let down by the shower floor - it was a walk in shower with a small shower curtain that couldn’t close the entire way meaning water could get out to the rest of the bathroom. And the shower lip on the floor was not sufficient enough to keep water in the designated shower area. We went through a lot of towels to clean this up. Also would be good if the gym had at least one set of free weights or a weight machine of sorts.
The location is everything. 10/10 with easy valet parking onsite, meant it was the most convenient part of our trip. The staff were also extremely helpful and efficient and we appreciated the 24 hour front of house service.

Elevator wasn’t working but concierge managed our bags to our room.
Great location, clean and tidy rooms (we had a mountain view room with 2 beds), friendly staff. Staff always available and happy to help.

The rooms look a little dated. Didn’t like the shower over the bath as it is quite a narrow space. The hot tub isn’t really what I imagined as it is in a closed off room and all the jets didn’t seem to be working and it wasn’t really that hot.
Great location walking distance to town. We booked a lake view room and it delivered. Beautiful view. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.

The Novotel Queenstown was in the PERFECT location! The property itself was nice, the room was of average size and the furnishings were nice. The flat-screen TV was large and nice. The staff was very helpful which made our stay more enjoyable.

The carpets need upgrading.
The location was perfect and convenient. It had a great view of the lake a few steps out of the front of the hotel.

Hotel is having lift upgrade while roadworks are around so there were noises from time to time. The valet parking was quoted at NZD 28, but was charged NZD 34 instead and they mentioned that they just hiked the price.
The location of the hotel is awesome located in the city centre and by the lake as well. Limited parking spots but valet service offered. Staffs were nice and accomodating.

Room is probably a bit dated. Certainly on the expensive side, I could stay at a comparable hotel from the same chain in Bangkok or Singapore for a much cheaper price.
Great location with a view of the lake. Short walk to the restaurants/bar on the lake waterfront. Great selection of items for breakfast. Internet worked well.

The bathtub was so narrow that it was hard to even stand in it for a shower. The hallways were full of cleaning carts to the point that it was hard to move our luggage around it.
Excellent location, cute patio where we sat out and enjoyed a glass of wine! The staff was very helpful and stored our luggage securely while we hiked the Milford Track. Very clean with a comfy bed.

The size of our room could have been a bit wider. We will make sure of the proper size next time we book.
The location close to town very handy for walking directly from the hotel to the shops. The high standard of the dishes offered on the dinner menu. However the chef was outstanding on the night of Friday 29th March, and different on the night of Sunday 31st for the same dish. It was obvious about a change of chef in the kitchen. Keep the chef who was on duty on Friday 29th March and we will be back in a jiffy.
