Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandWe felt that the experience for that price could have been a little more inclusive of extras, for eg, wine with dinner (having said that there was complimentary half bottle of wine and a couple of beers in the room, much appreciated!).
We stayed in the lodge rather than the tree houses. Fantastic accommodation with wonderful attention to detail, and great facilities such as a large spa bath, gas fireplace. Breakfast and dinner were included, and these were excellent. Great views back towards the kaikoura range, and a 15 minute walk will get you down to the beach for more fabulous views. The Lodge arranged whale watching for us, and were very helpful in answering any queries we had. Would definitely stay again.

AustraliaHaving to leave was sad. If I were to think of something that could be better it would be the shower head - I love the large rain type rather than the narrow nozzle head. And undercover parking outside or under the tree house might be nice too but not critical.
Breakfast and dinner are included in the rate, and the food was always beautifully presented, of high quality and nothing was too much trouble if changes were requested; local produce was featured and freshness evident; staff were welcoming and friendly, always happy to make your stay comfortable and pleasant; the tree house accommodation was spectacular, views to the sea, views to the snow covered mountains, all amenities provided, with fresh cookies daily and complimentary minibar with local produce - extra comfortable beds, lovely soft large robes to fit even larger people, a lovely large deep acrylic bath with supplied candles and a heated bathroom floor, smart curtaining to isolate bathroom area, bedroom area, an electric gas heater as well as reverse cycle air conditioner for heating - at times we were too warm, although outside was very cold especially at night. Modern facilities such as smart TV, smart toilet, smart lighting, etc., made the accommodation a joy to experience. No sensation of other guests at all. So private, and quiet. Watching the deer in the adjacent paddock running in the wind was entertaining, and watching the snow get lower over the few days we were there was nice.

AustraliaWhat I was most impressed with was that we arrived very late as a result of a delay with the Wellington - Picton Ferry. Having communicated with the team at Hapuku Lodge and knowing we weren't arriving to very late the team prepared a lovely anti pasto for our enjoyment upon arrival - most appreciated!

New ZealandHāpuku lodge is beyond what we ever could have expected. We celebrated our engagement there and it was complete luxury. We stayed in a tree house and the photos can not do justice to the comfort, views and feel of the space. There are so many added 'extras' comforts and wee surprises including how high tech the rooms are. On top of the rooms was the incredible, personable service by all staff and friendly faces at the lodge. The meal at dinner and breakfast is one that we will remember for years to come and hopefuly be back for one day.

United KingdomDinner was a little bit disappointing, there were only two choices for each course when the website shows around 4/5 on their example menu, my pork belly was overcooked.
Customer service was exceptional, the panoramic views are amazing and the rooms are cosy. Loved the big bathroom and bath.

New ZealandThe room was cold due to heat pump being ineffective when privacy curtains were pulled - seemed a flaw in design for cold months. Auto sensor lighting, although a novelty, were also over-active and at times annoying. Disappointed to see breakfast prepared in the kitchen by a staff member wearing a puffer jacket with a furry hood - this was not professional and off-putting from a food hygiene perspective. This doesn't fit with the expectations for a luxury lodge. On check-out day we were not asked once whether we enjoyed our stay - hence this review.
Beautifully furnished, spacious and fantastic vistas. Warm welcome on arrival from Julia. Dinner was exceptional. Open fires nice touch for warmth and ambience. Heated tiles in bathroom and lovely bath were a treat.
