How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

We had a great stay . It is walking distance to town, very clean and family orientated . There is a games room , outdoor play area, swimming pool and guest Laundry.

The 70s tiles date the kitchen. The room had recently been repainted, but needed a second coat.
Colin and Lisa MacPhee took over this place on 31 March 2023, and in the last year they've put an enormous effort into rejuvenating a, frankly, tired old motel into something special. Granted, the lime green tiles will take a while to replace, and it will always be a fairly traditional older style hostelry, but given the spaciousness of the rooms and the relative quiet, I did not miss Scandi chrome, glass and bouncing sound one bit. Colin's from Uist, in the Inner Hebrides, and has spent his career in the hospitality industry, more than a few in NZ as a Food & Beverage (F&B) manager, and as a hotel inspector for the NZ Tourist Board, so he knows how things ought to be done, and how to train staff to ensure it happens. He's a wealth of knowledge about the local area, and happy to have a bit of a chat. We were very pleased to be given Room 9, a spacious 2 bedder with a lovely suntrap garden out the back, which was delightful in the mornings. Having a second bedroom as a change room was a luxury. All the staff we met were very friendly and helpful, particularly Debbs. Getting back to town wasn't difficult, provided you don't get waylaid by the Target Golf on the lakeside. My problem.

Although the beds were comfy, we personally like a soft bed which is quite hard to find in a motel room.
This is one of the cleanest places we have stayed in. Great location and friendly staff.

Great Hosts very friendly and helpful. Went out of there way to accommodate our needs. Had laundry, games room etc. Very happy with room size and very clean.

The toilet was a little small but the unit was beautiful and we were told that upgrades were happening.

Very comfortable, quiet, spacious two-bedroom units that are good value for money. Have stayed here several times. We love the retro look, especially now the new owners have updated. Very nice.

Very nice, roomy property. Very large rooms. Quiet neighbourhood, yet just a few minutes walk from downtown/lakefront. Private parking spot for each unit. Owners very friendly and helpful -- nothing is a bother to them.

Loved taking a dip in the pool. The apartment was well proportioned for the price. Great local info about what to do in Taupō. All advice taken and it was spot on.

We arrived late
What a beautiful Motel. We checked in quite late in the day, as we travelled to a funeral. The host was absolutely lovely. We were quite blown away by the motel. The facilities, the rooms are so lovely and very clean. The location was great. Thank you so much for accommodating my family at such short notice, and allowing us to check in late in the afternoon
