How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Decor was a bit dated, but we expected that at this price point
Staf went above and beyond, including arranging lickup of our child's toy that we left behind!

Some of the dishes were dirty. We had to clean them before we used them. Some of the linen was stained and if it were my motel I'd replace it. Some of the other guests were very loud despite signs posted asking people to keep noise down after 9pm, but I'm aware that is outside the motel's control.
The TV worked well, the WIFI worked well, the bedding was good quality and beds were well made. They had a friendly cat, this is a huge plus for me.

We both have leg-joint issues and find shower-over bath a little difficult, but to be fair we didn't specify in our booking and we will do so next time - and we will definitely be back a next time.
Kath and her side-kick Mocha The Moggy (see photo) are great hosts, very friendly and warm. The room was a great size, very cosy and clean, with everything we needed. We were visiting my elderly father-in-law in Jane Mander Ryman Retirement Home which is a very short drive away. There are shops and services close by; and being round the corner from Pizza Jack's is a definite plus!Despite being near a major intersection, the property is set back a bit from the road with decent parking spaces and a good turn-around. Given it's on a main road and we live in a remote country community in the middle of nowhere, I thought it was pretty quiet overall.

There was nowhere on their page or at their counter to say the spa pool and games room was closed due to Covid even though we are in level 1. And being told to be quiet as you arrive at 7.50pm hadn’t even gotten into my room yet.
Great location, clean & tidy. Comfy beds & great space in the room.

The staff was soooo kind !!! Even though we have family living in Whangarei. We were in the country organising a surprise 60th for mum and had to hide out somewhere for a few days while doing the last organising for the event. Our lovely host was ever so kind to even offer any help if we needed to get things organised. Offer for us to use the motel fairy lights if need be.

A bit outdated with the COVID 19 restrictions and the need to provide vaccination pass given these restrictions were uplifted over a year ago. Hard to find public transport nearby and get to and from other places if you don't have a vehicle.
It was ok for an overnight stay. Basic facilities and the staff was accommodating in the end after some debate with providing COVID 19 vaccination pass.

The owners are still asking to see covid vaccine certificates, which I thought was a bit strange as the government stopped that more then a year ago and the place is very tired, it needs renovations.

Be aware if you stay here you need to front up with your Covid vaccination record & I.D. This is no longer appropriate & unreasonable. Also the shower was over the bath and had no safety handrail.

The unbelievable attitude of the owners. Demanding vaccinations certificates after they have taken all our money and refusing to refund us when we com plained. It is genuinely like they get a kick out of it. Nowhere in the registration process did it say anything about vaccinations certificates. This is a grift. Avoid. Booking.com this reflects badly on you as you allow the grift to happen on your website and I am a big fan of booking.com
