How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

We could not find a compost bin, but the recycling and rubbish was v well organised. We would have liked to know the name of the cat. The bed was very creaky - even just to get into - and could do with tightening up. More light on the combination lock at night was needed - it was hard to read the digits on it.
Booking was a breeze. We arrived late and did not meet the owners or staff, but a self assured ginger cat was present and supervised us. The room had "ensuite" without any toilet, which I would have liked but this was clear at the time of booking. The clean and well appointed kitchen was great and opened on to comfortable outside deck with tables, chairs, outside furniture. The provision of tea and real ground coffee and plungers was superb.

Accom shortage due to car race weekend so we tried the backpacker option and were pleasantly surprised and will be very likely to expand our selection criteria to include backpacker options. Would deffo use Riverstone again. Very clean and friendly/helpful staff

Need a slightly better light over the entry keypads for old people like us.
Close to the shops and food vendors. Very helpful friendly owners. Great facilities, very clean and homely. We felt very welcome. Best thing of all was Ginge the fabulous Orange and white cat. Ginger welcomed us, showed us our room, and checked on us regularly to make sure we were happy with everything, even stayed on our bed for a while each morning, we were enchanted with him. Sandra provides coffee tea and raw sugar, we felt very at home. Security was good too.

The rooms were clean and comfortable. The shared kitchen was well equipped. The dining and lounge were comfortable, there was a lovely outdoor deck area. The location was within walking distance to the town centre.

It is kind of a family home turned into a hostel, which is not obvious from the pictures, it’s not bad just surprising, we had different expectations. We saw a cockroach in the kitchen. Payment is not deducted automatically/through Booking but had to be done on site which left me with a weird unsafe feeling (host took my card and typed in card details manually).
Super nice, communicative, efficient host, very comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen, clean bathrooms, surprise cats.

We really liked the location, only a 20 minute drive from the lodge to the Tongariro Crossing trail end where you catch the shuttles. We really liked that there was a shared kitchen, which made making our sandwiches for our hike a lot easier! The room was pretty large, nice to be able to spread out a bit. The facilities were very nice and clean as well.

Everything was fine.
Sandra is a great host! We felt very much welcome. It was like home away from home. It is also a great starting place for a shuttle if you want to do the Tongariro Crossing.

Excellent place to stay in Turangi! We booked a private room with a double bed and ensuite bathroom. It had parking for our car right outside our room. We loved this place so much we wish we stayed there a whole week instead of just 3 nights. Very relaxing. So clean. Great vibes. The owner is great and so helpful! Helped us book Tongariro crossing shuttle and recommended fishing rental locations. We will definitely be back.
