How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The kitchen was not very clean or well-equipped. Was glad I was only staying one night because I would not have felt very comfortable preparing food there. Place is more like a motel than hostel- but was kind of prepared for that having read previous reviews.
I knew that the room was small, so no surprises there. But it was comfortable and clean.

Small rooms, like a pod. Comfy enough for one person, but there was a bunk bed in there, would be very cramped for 2 people.
Great location, very central. Showers were hot, beds and communal areas were clean. Great price for a private room to myself.

I did not pay attention when booking, but the room is very small, so it is only for a short period

The hostel is easy to reach, just a few minutes' walk from the Rotorua visitor centre. I had one of the capsule rooms for one person and was surprised how optimally designed these are: despite the room being tiny, the bed was such that my luggage could fit underneath, there were hooks, shelves and power sockets, so I really had all I needed and didn't feel crammed! The front desk manager was absolutely fantastic and helpful; overall, I had a wonderful stay!

* No tissues in room and shared kitchen. * Too noisy from next door people and the next building, at night time all nights, having really bad noises sounds like having a Air Extractor * not sure if it is summer how hot it would be in such a tiny room even fan provided.
First of all, booking.com made mistake, the name of the place is wrong even until in this email. The lovely lady staff really sweet, love her. If in room and shared kitchen can have tissues that would be great

The room I stayed in was extremly small and had no aircon, however it was i needed so it was fine.
The location was excellent and the staff were very welcoming and freindly. The rooms were secure and the facilities were very good.

Room was very cramped. Tiny window. Got too hot in room with just a tiny fan. It’s more like a motel than a hostel. Just a very small kitchen (1 oven/1 toaster/kettle etc). So if someone else is cooking you have to wait. Only one table to sit at. It has everything you need just limited space.
Really friendly helpful staff. Good location and easy walk to town/supermarket.

No extra space in the rooms but I didn’t mind, read it from the other reviews so I knew before I booked
Clean facilities, private shower rooms. The receptionist was super nice and helpful. Great location for finding cafes, restaurant and shops. There is parking available. Quiet at night

The size of the room was really only adequate for 1 person, even though there were two beds.
The room was smaller than I had expected but was adequate as it was only for 1 night. The location was close to the shops so I was able to walk there.

Parking slightly limited and first come first served, however we always got a space and I think there is some street parking nearby too. I imagine in peak season it may be an inconvenience to some.
Lovely and helpful staff. Great communication through booking app. Good location close to restaurants, spas, amenities and easy to drive to further destinations or activities. Clean and comfortable. Well equipped kitchen. Would stay again!

The kitchen is far too small, with even one other person cooking it is cramped as half the hobs do not work, the fridge is far too small for all the guests and there are not enough seats. It was very clean though.
