Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandWas nice to just relax and be cosy by the fire. The fire warmed the place up extremely well. Great bird life and seeing the train go past on occasion added to the experience. Me and my partner thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would do it again. Another thing I must mention is that I brought my dog with me. Finding good pet friendly accommodation isn't too easy

New ZealandTraffic can be noisy, but its awesome location and closeness to arthurs pass and the general walking tracks and other mountain activities help offset this. (Recommend light sleepers wear earplugs)
Awesome options of keeping warm, plenty of blankets, sleeping bags and a fireplace with plenty of firewood and pinecones. It was clean and there was also plenty of ways to cook dinner, microwave, oven, and airfryer and toaster! Instructions on getting there and what to expect were very detailed

LithuaniaWhat a peaceful stay in this cozy cabin surrounded by nature, river sounds, morning birds chirping and amazing night sky. The highlight was the fireplace with wood provided which was so relaxing. Very clear instructions so it was easy to find it even when it was dark. Gary is super friendly, proactive and made sure we understood how to get there.

New ZealandNothing really.
Great host, well equipped (but basic) cabin, lovely new fireplace. Not a luxury stay, but exactly as described, and a great place to get away from modern life for a while (but it does have WiFi, a microwave , a hot shower and modern conveniences!)

United StatesA great stay in a great location! We were thankful to have our own cabin to stay in the Otira/Arthur’s Pass area. Gary and Dawn were very helpful and took extra time to ensure that we were aware of what to expect from the cabin, what to make sure to bring, and that we were able to check in without issue. They were proactive and made extra effort to ensure a comfortable stay. They were also very quick to respond to any inquiries ahead of and throughout our stay. Check in and check out were super easy, and Gary and Dawn provided clear instructions and followed up so there was no doubt about getting in and out without issue. On chilly evenings, it felt like a luxury to be able to light a fire in the fireplace. There is also a heater if you need it, but the cabin is well-insulated enough that the cosy hut stayed warm enough through the night long after the fire went out. The kitchen is equipped with the appliances and accessories for preparing meals in the cabin. The cabin is spacious, has a full bathroom inside, and towels and linens are included. We were also surprised at how strong and fast the wifi connection is. Located in the beautiful mountain area, you can view the mountains from the cabin and on a clear night, the stars pop in the sky because it is far from light pollution. An all-around great deal for the area and a great home-base while exploring Otira and Arthur’s pass!

New ZealandThe occasional train.
Large and well-kept section around the hut. Great space for the dog to run around, well fenced. Also very private and tranquil space bar the occasional train. Hut itself is undersold, lovely warm functional space. We very much enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

AustraliaShower water wasn't hot but apparently we should have turned the heater switch on. Owner says he will mark switch for future renters.
Very commendable that the owner is so upfront about it being a basic cabin. If you are going to complain about it not meeting your expectations, then you haven't read the booking info properly

IrelandLovely electric blankets on the beds. Lots of dry wood to light a fire. Left very clean by the prior guests. We stayed in the hut with ensuite bathroom and it was well worth paying extra verses the hut with an outside bathroom.
