Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandWas put in an adjoining room where noise carried too easily from neighbouring room. Don't recall the adjoining being made explicit at time of booking. Would have preferred a stand alone cabin if we'd known in advance. Staff could not move us because place was fully booked, but they did try.
Everything except the adjoining room.

New ZealandNothing. It was great!
When we arrived at De Brett’s it turned out our room had been double booked due to a miscommunication. What was great was De Brett were very sorry for the error, then proceeded to find us alternative accommodation at the beautiful Quest, paid for the accomodation which was more expensive then gave us two day passes for the De Brett pools! The young women that served us was a gorgeous polite and friendly young Lady. We were so grateful for how they fixed everything. So even though we didn’t get to stay, the service was exceptional. Thanks De Brett’s.

New ZealandHowever, this visit had a few setbacks. Shortly after checking in, we found a cockroach in my children's room, which was quite unsettling. Additionally, we were surprised by a $150 surcharge for having seven people in our party, a fee that was not communicated beforehand. Although we had requested two rollaway beds, they were not provided. Instead, we discovered the sofa could be pulled out into a queen-sized bed, which was not mentioned at booking. The staff had confirmed the availability of two rollaway beds and a cot for my infant, but upon arrival, only the portacot was provided. Additionally, the main hot pools were under renovation. While the majority of the other hot pools were available, this was not mentioned during the booking process.
I've stayed at Taupō Debretts Spa Resort before and it consistently impresses. The WiFi is available and stable across the property, which is a huge plus. The rooms are designed like individual villas, providing the comfort and space of a whole house. Additionally, we received a 50% discount on the Hotpools as guests, which was fantastic. I also appreciate the heated floors, which keep the room cozy and warm during cold weather. Highly recommend!

New ZealandNo blind over the toilet people able to see through the window especially when given the close proximity to the shower. The hedge on the deck was over grown. Not all hot pools were operational and there was a poor set up for woman when men had two change rooms and toilets.
Quiet, well appointed. Clean and tidy

AustraliaLaundry facility, had to buy washing powder from shop, put dryer on for 2x $4 cycles and they were still all wet.. ended up hanging them through the room. The jumping pillow was closed the whole time we were there.
Beautiful location, our villa had views of lakes and little birds and ducks came to visit us in the morning. You have to pay extra to use the hot pools and slides, but they are lovely and warm and my daughter and hubby had a blast on the slides.

United KingdomOur chalet was adjoined to another with an interconnecting door. Sound proofing is non existent and we could hear the family next door. Their children were awake and running around very early. The crockery was not clean. Property was a little far from centre of Taupo. Renovation work underway at swimming pool/hot water pool.
Chalet had everything we needed for an overnight stay. We enjoyed using the hot water pool.

New ZealandI wonder what the construction work was for the hot pools. I'll be back to see the finish product. The room gets quite messy and sometimes I don't like to leave it for the cleaners. Is there a broom or vaccum in the rooms? Not sure if the geothermal heaters were working but it wasn't too cold so didn't need to use it but be nice to have some instructions on how to use it?
The service from the receptionist was really friendly and helpful. The beds were comfy and the room was very large. I liked that there was designated parking and facilities were all close by. Lots of things for the children to do... Absolutely loved soaking into the hot pools. Kids had a blast. Also didn't get to utilise all the facilities so will need to come back.

AustraliaBeds weren't super comfortable - there was a dip in the middle of the double which was awkward. Kitchen was billed as self contained but we had one pot without a lid and a frypan with a loose handle. No oven, just a microwave/convection hybrid with no instruction manual which limited us a lot. Lack of proper changeroom for women at the waterpark was a bummer too (cubicle with a curtain was not the most comfortable or secure). Consider adding flyscreens in any future renovations - would be nice to enjoy the breeze without letting in the bugs (and there were lots of those!)
The cabins were nice and tidy and quiet, didn't hear a peep from any other guests so felt nice and secluded. The water park was fun despite the renovations - the four year old had the time of her life! Living space was a good size for us. Close enough to town centre to explore everything. Staff were very friendly and it was nice having a discount at the waterpark because of all the work. Complementary milk was a nice touch too. Shower was nice, Hot and good pressure, and nice to have the airing rack for wet swimwear.
