Excellent shepherd's hut set in beautiful countryside

    Everything was good.

Beautifully situated in the Oamaru countryside with a great view from the door. The hut has a double bed, small table, sink, two ring hob and toaster and is more than sufficient for a few nights stay. The bathroom area has a shower, basin and a bamboo composting toilet which was absolutely fine with no smells at all. The owner provides alpaca food to feed the 3 alpacas and 2 sheep nearby to the hut. Overall our stay was excellent with a friendly, efficient owner, a pleasant hut with a great view. 5 out of 5 for our stay.

Quirky and fun from the gypsy caravan shaped cabin to the alpacas and sheep that greet you every morning. We loved our stay here and feeding the critters was a delight.

There was nothing that we disliked about the property.

A wonderful location , so close to town yet so very private, tucked in out of the wind with amazing sunset views. My wife loved the outdoor bath under the stars . . Every thing was well thought out and we had everything we needed .We had spent our previous 5 nights in a “luxury” hotel in Dunedin but to us this was , though different, a great deal better . Even the bedding and pillows were better and the room size not that much different .A great place to stay . Gerald and Tricia

Cosy cabin, no TV but I enjoyed the absence, in the same vein the cabin has an off grid feel (composting toilet, some limits to electrical usage) but I liked this. The location (a working farm) and aspect(receives afternoon sun) are excellent.

The bathroom did take some get used to but it worked out in the end

Comfy bed, nice kitchen with some basic tools, one heater inside which can keep inside warm enough in an early spring Food for the alpacas are provided, so we had a nice little farm experience We get to see the milky way at late night :)

I didn't stay for two nights.

Alpacas, alpacas, alpacas! Only kidding, I was swayed by the alpacas but the location is only about an 8 minute drive into town and having a night in a boring motel I so wished I'd picked two nights at Shepherd's Rest instead of the one, it was comfortable and cosy and at one with nature if that's your thing. 5 🌟

Cosy hut with a very comfortable bed. The place is super-clean and warm when using the heater in the cold winter. The shower is quite good. We can see the alpacas and sheeps are starring at us each time we open the door. Also, the view there is very beautiful. What a dream life! The host Jennie is so kind and is easy to communicate with. We would like to come back and spend more time in this place:)
