The room was spacious however the décor was a little old and outdated. The food served in the restaurant by the pool was bad. There was only one other table when we ate there but we waited for 20+ mins for our drinks and then some more for our food. The food was poor (lumpy mash potato) and expensive, think British chain pub food.

We didn't realise this, but there are actually three hotels on the resort and we mistakenly booked the family hotel - so beware. The staff were helpful but overall the hotel was pretty average for a Shangri-La and I would definitely not call it a 5* hotel. Perhaps the adult only resort is better.

The breakfast hall was overcrowded. We were transported by bus to another Shangri-La hotel to have breakfast. The rooms were overpriced compared to the level of the rooms we paid for. Not the Shangri- La standard we normally stay in. The hotel is overpriced. One shisha and 3 teas cost us US$ 60. +... The Service at this SiO2 cafe was very bad. When we checked in, the reception offered us an option for dinner: a discount of OMR 10 (US$27) per person (from OMR29 to OMR 22) if we book with her the dinner table immediately. We agreed and paid in advance upon check in. But the dinner value is not even worth the OMR 66 =(US$180.-) we paid for the 3 of us. Even tea, coffee and water were extras!!

The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was ok but overcrowded. Beach looked ok but didn't use it, it was raining unfortunately. Room ok but way overpriced and below Shangri-La room standard.

The service and communication was not always the best. Our 2 rooms were described as "adjoining" (but one was around the corner from the other and seperated by a service room in between!), a trip we booked wasn’t booked properly by the staff, coffee and breakfast items would sometimes not turn up and you would need to give a reminder. Not so well organised/managed in some respects, some room for improvement there.

A nice resort, relaxed and very good for families. The children enjoyed the pools and the lazy river. A nice selection of restaurants.

We visited over Ramadan and at Eid, and although the no-alcohol didn’t really bother us, it did get extremely busy over Eid. The second room we stayed in on the ground floor was convenient, but we did feel that for the amount of money we were spending to stay, the rooms could definitely do with a spruce up - some of the sockets and lights didn’t work, and the rooms felt quite outdated for the price.

Hotel was clean and staff were extremely helpful, thoughtful and kind. Special thanks to the waiter Lanka (I think) who brought us fresh pomegranate juice every morning at breakfast when he saw us! There was so much for our 3.5 year old daughter to do, and she especially enjoyed the lazy river, playing on the sea and the children’s play area. The children’s pool is perfect and we could easily spend hours splashing about there and made some new friends.
