Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaMy Spanish could be better. One of the staff speaks English, but we were able to get our needs across when Spanish was the only option so this is not really a didn't like, and this is common throughout Panama from our experience so it is definitely not a knock on this property.
staff was friendly and helpful, unit was clean and quiet. Family friendly environment, playground right next door. Bus to Albrook mall (central hub for transportation and shopping) was every 40 minutes, about 1 block away (go toward main road, turn right, walk about 100meters/300' past 2 convenience stores and get the orange trimmed bus that says either Albrook or Amador) or take an Uber. (We are white, so taxi's cost too much, if I spoke more Spanish I might get the rate, but twice from other locations the taxi drivers looked at what uber was charging and walked way - a great way to get taxi drivers to stop pestering you. On the other hand, from coming back from Gambosa, the taxi driver looked at the uber rate and said "sure" so we took the taxi - uber was an hour away.) Much nicer area than downtown Panama City where we have stayed several times before, this became my preferred location to stay. I like the low cost I admit. But I also prefer the atmosphere of a Hostal where you meet a wide range of people, and most of them are happy to chat in the common areas. Basically you exchange "best quality painting" of a upper priced hotel for "best interactions with people". If you hate talking to people - go to a hotel! If you like the ability for causual conversation with people in Panama City from around the world - this is a great place. When we were there, a long term resident (he stays several months a year) gave us lots of tips on where to go, how to go, what to look for.

When I arrived, I was warmly welcomed. I chose this location because of the location near the Albrook Airport, but I will choose it everytime I return because of the hospitality, comfy beds, hot water, fluffy towels, cold air conditioning and it's quiet.

United Arab EmiratesLocated in a beautiful area in the ex american area. near to main attractions like miraflores, amador causeway and american bridge. tocumen airport takes some time, around 1.5 hrs by metro plus bus but only costs a dollar to reach. some small eateries and shops around. Bus goes to the metro nearby every 20 mins approx. good staff, willing to support. Daniel was very helpful. A lot of common areas outdoor and very neatly kept.

We thought we would stay overnight, and go, but we came back even at the end of our stay in Panama. I will definitely come again.

NetherlandsNot many comfortable chairs and couches, not many people there so not social. If the dorm was full it would be crowded but don’t think that happens easily. The facilities are dated but worked well enough.
Very nice hosts, big kitchen, drinking water available. Shower was clean, warm. Bed was comfortable, sheets were clean. Excellent for a couple nights, close to both airports and busstation.

United StatesEverything was fine.
It's super close to the airport which is the main reason for booking it. Also we love that it was family run and operated. They helped us with all of our questions and concerns! We got in late and they directed us to a nearby store to get food and Sim cards to save money. The air-conditioning was great in the room and much needed after a few hit nights.

GermanyThe main road next to the hostal is really loud. It's ok during the night but traffic runs late into it and starts again early. So bring earplugs.
We enjoyed our stay in this hostal. The family who runs it is really nice. Rooms and kitchen are clean and comfortable. The location is great. We really liked it. It's not far to a big bus station at a mall where there is busses and the the tram to everywhere in town. We also walked to the old town twice. Safe neighborhood. Also at night.

United StatesThe only things that I would note could have been better are that my room seemed to be right underneath a neon sign outside which make very high-pitched squeaking noises that kept me awake and gave me a bit of a headache. This could probably be fixed with some sealing around the windows or thicker curtains, perhaps. Also, it should be noted for anyone planning to explore Panama City on foot that this hostel is not located within walking distance to the center, due to some neighborhoods and city infrastructure between the hostel and, for example, Casco Viejo. However, cabs and Uber are cheap enough so it was pretty easy to get to and from the hostel, but it did add a few dollars a day onto the stay. Just FYI.
Hostal Amador was an absolutely wonderful experience when it comes to the staff, location, and facilities. The couple who run the hostel are so hospitable, kind, engaging, and extremely welcoming to travelers from around the world. They even helped me get a Covid test at the last minute when I realized I needed one in order to transit through the USA. The room was clean and the bed was quite comfortable! The kitchen facilities are well-stocked and the morning coffee was not only complimentary, but delicious too! I also felt very safe walking to the local mini supermarket, and would have liked to explore the leafy residential area more than I had time for. The WiFi was quite good and fast enough too, and I believe there was a printing service available. Additionally, they arranged to pick me up at the airport and for a very (VERY affordable cab ride to the international airport for my departure. Overall, I had a lovely stay, would happily stay again, and highly recommend Hostal Amador.

ItalyWe absolutely loved staying at Hostal Amador Familiar! The room was comfy and spacious, with a nice view on the garden surrounding the property. The area is very peaceful, it was wonderful waking up with the song of the birds and the rustle of leaves. In the kitchen you can always find hot coffee for free, great to wake you up in the morning! Even better is being greeted by the super friendly staff and Kai, the sweetest pup you'll ever meet and the real head of the family at Hostal Amador! Positive quotes are written all around inside the hostal, leaving you with a warm feeling. Staying here felt like finding a new home and we really hope we can visit again one day!
