Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Switzerland- Facilities are basic but clean - If you don't have a car to get anywhere first you have to walk alongside the main road or wait for a bus - No drinks or food available at the hostel itself, but there's a few - small, really basic an very cheap - restaurants along the road and you can find most things in the small supermarket close by, you may put your things in the fridge and even use the kitchen.
- Really super friendly owner - Fantastic view of Volcan Baru from the terrace with sometimes breathtaking sundowns - Excellent place to meet other travellers - Good starting point for a walk in the mountain forest - Beside the road to Chiriquì Grande it's a good place for a stopover on the way to Bocas (and there's not that much choice in the area) I would recommend a stay of 2-3 nights: if you stop for one night only you'll probably miss the beauty of the surrounding nature, a bath in the mountain river, ... For a longer stay there is not really much to do up there.

GermanyMy bathroom sink was not inside my bathroom, but outside on my own balcony, that was not very handy. But I heard that other rooms do not have this „special feature“.
The hostel is very special, each room is different, but all have an own bathroom. The view from the terrace is beautiful as you can see great nature including the sunset. There is a shared kitchen including a shared fridge. The owner is very helpful and explains the available attractions (including hiking options).

United StatesIt was a bit eclectic built on the side of a slope and I have some anxiety about sleeping in shanty construction
Good spot for overnight transit in the mountains and you want to camp but still have a roof over your head. The staff are nice, it was clean and very good value.

Czech RepublicThe place is perfect. Maybe a little less comfort than in other places we stayed but you have access to kitchen for example. We were a little afraid that the 5y oldmay fall from the terrace if not attentive.
The owner is incredibly friendly and helpful. He has built the building with his own hands. The location is wonderful in the middle of the mountains. The views are wonderful and you have views of Boquete at night. It is very close to main road but the trucks were not so disturbing as you may expect.

AustraliaIt’s quite rustic so don’t expect a hot shower and luxury, but it’s a great experience!
Cool treehouse-like building with a great view. Really friendly staff. Comfy bed and well stocked kitchen. Good wifi. Moved here from the Lost and Found hostel and enjoyed it much more.

GermanyEverything fine.
Roots hostel is a unique place set up like a tree house with a great view ( when the weather is good) of the volcano baru. The owner was friendly and happy to give us advice on activities. It was raining a lot during our stay, but we still enjoyed the cozy dorm and hung out on the terrace reading.

United KingdomPillows weren't great, if you sleep in room number 2 you can literally hear everything. Or at least if you have really considerate other guests living there that stomp around like elephants and scream like baboons at 6 in the morning, than you will not have a good time there. The last bus from David goes there at 18.00 try to get there in time otherwise the taxi drivers will try to rip you off.
Nice staff, cute dog, great to be so close to nature, kitchen, balcony.

PanamaOur bedroom was underneath the “common area” and we could hear everyone talking and walking above us, so if you are willing to have super quiet and early sleep nights, ask David for the best option.
If you are looking for a place to relax but want to be close to a main road, some food options and lots of nature, this is the perfect place! The house is definitely built with love and David, the owner, is really helpful and makes sure to make you feel welcome. There is nothing healthier than to wake up and take a cold fresh shower with water from the mountains, definitely a dream!

GermanyIt's a small hostel, so if you want to socialize, you'd better go to lost'n'found.
Yes, it's very rustic. But exactly that is the charm. Quite in the middle of nowhere, where you can just be yourself and go on various, there's still a lovely Café, a little restaurant and a small supermarket nearby. The owner is super friendly and helpful with all your questions. The privates are charming, the dorms are quite spacious with their own bathrooms. I can highly recommend to stay there a couple of nights. Also ask for the coffee tour. And the sunsets are nice and free ;)

BulgariaThere are a few drawbacks. Not all rooms are equal, even though they are priced the same. The room we stayed in is not depicted in the photos, which I found misleading. In our room, the ceiling is so low that I hit my head on it. Additionally, there are iron bars supporting the ceiling, posing a potential danger. The elevated bed height makes every nightly movement risky, and I have hit my head five times and my back once on the iron bar. There is also an unpleasant dripping from the shower. I saw few of the other rooms and they seemed much better.
The place is good, and the price-to-value ratio is a gem. It provides stunning views of the volcano and a pleasant nighttime temperature conducive to a good sleep. The owner is a pleasant man dedicated to developing the place.
