Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

EcuadorThis place checked all of our boxes: private, cozy room, shared kitchen, private bathroom, away from the noise of the city center. The host is so friendly and communicative, and she really went out of her way to help us. She printed off many documents for us when we needed it, let us use her space to bathe our baby, and when I left my electronic book by accident she informed me and made sure it got back to me. She went above and beyond what I would hope for a host. Thank you!

NetherlandsThe room was very good and the staff were really friendly! We had a problem with the border crossing and were able to change our reservation, they were very understanding. They responded very quickly on whatsapp and they also let us check in very early. We could use the kitchen and laundry service. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and I would definitely recommend it!

NetherlandsIts a 15/20 min walk to the center center. It's not too bad but if you want to start the Salkantay for example, make sure they pick you up at the hostel in the night. Shower's temperature is allright but not very hot.
We got a warm welcome by the owners. Nice, spacious rooms. Place is small and quite. The owner did our laundry as well, and even fixed a big hole in my trousers for free. She was always ready to answer question. Defenitely worth de money!

New ZealandThe bathroom was a little smelly.
The hosts were super lovely, and helped to store our bags when we did the Salkantay trail. We had access to use the kitchen which was useful. The dogs and cat were super cute.

United KingdomThis is a house where the bottom floor has been converted into three guest rooms with small kitchen. There is a lack of privacy in the room as a pane of glass is missing, so there is not a separation between the family and guest side of the house. The family are very loud. The doorbell rings every morning at 6am (or earlier!) , and they make no effort to be quiet whilst running their affairs. Loud talking, shouting, television playing on high volume, dogs barking... all begins very loudly at 6am. They also have a living area that is open to the guest area, so we hear them in the evenings as well. Again, no attempt to keep voices low or a sense that there are guests present. The shower is cold and it is true what other guests remark that the kitchen and hallway areas smell bad due to the open sewer pipe. It's also true that the host turns off the wifi at 10pm every night. We had to repeatedly ask for this not to happen as we needed the internet to plan our travel and contact our families. As I say, the host is friendly but these other factors indicate a lack of consideration for guests.

GermanyNot very easy to find (side-street with access through steep, darkish public stairs). Not really central either. We (father plus 2 kids, 16+12) spent 3 nights @ the hostal. 3 rooms share a miniatur bathroom (WC + shower <2m²) with poor ventilation (smells odd). No toilet paper from day two on. Hosts/owners live upstairs and run some kind of tour agency. We listened to every single tourist/booking-phone call during our stay. WIFI was switched off during the first night (had to convince the lady that I need to answer emails, book hotels etc.) Finally, my 12-year old daughter thought that she had left a little bag with copies there (she was actually mistaken and we found everything. We informedthe hostal immediately). However, when we asked politely via email if the hotel staff had found something and whether a friend could pick it up it resulted in a true avalanche of defensive responses (~8) with a questionable tonality. Somewhat disappointing because the lady was very friendly at the beginning when explaining Machu Pichu options, trains, prices etc. Cusco was - once again - great, though.
Decent kitchen area.
