I booked it very last minute and I was surprised how clean and comfy it was for that price point. The landlady is also very nice and helpful.

The description of a balcony was, in my opinion, generous. You certainly couldn't put a chair out there. The pillows were so unyielding and hard, I used a folded blanket instead.

Friendly hostess. Great breakfast. The hostal was a very short walk from the Incan ruins, and also a short distance from the town square. It was within walking distance to the train station, though you wouldn't want to have heavy luggage with you.

The building is currently under construction/repair works, why it is loud during the day and the community rooms are packed with things everywhere. Breakfast was pretty standard.

This hotel offers a simple, affordable, comfortable place to stay. It's not fancy, but the bed was comfortable and the service from Maria was excellent. She offered a simple breakfast to get going in the morning, helped with laundry, and she has a cooler full of water so you never run out. If you start a few nights, you'll fast become friends. This is also an easy walk from the train station and only a few steps from the Ollantaytambo ruins on one side, and the plaza on the other.

It had a smell in the lobby. The rooms are old and not that clean or luxurious. The sheets a clean but the bed is pretty tough to sleep on. That being said… the cost is so low that you can’t complain. We stayed one night while traveling between MP and Cuzco. It was worth it for the cheap price.

The lovely lady running this small place is very sweet. She is like a caring grandma. Great location.

Room could have been cleaner. Some rooms have no water. Showers can be hit and miss as to whether the water is warm or cold. Had to fix the bedside lamp as the wires were broken.

Maria was friendly and accommodating. We managed to communicate somehow and she gave good advice for local sightseeing. She also made us breakfast-to-go for our trip to Machu Picchu. The bed was quite comfortable. It is a typical family run no-nonsense casa.

No hot water in shower. Leak in the bathroom made it hard to use. Had to ask for extra towels for all the people in the room.

At check in I was charged the VAT that is specifically reserved for citizens of Peru. Maria insisted that I pay the 18%. Ultimately I payed it, but it felt a like a bait and switch from the Booking.com rate. Overall it was a great stay for the money.

The hotel was very conveniently located to the city center and restaurants. Maria allowed us to leave our bags before and after our stay. The staff was friendly and accommodating.

They gave us a better room and gave us suggestions for local restaurants. We were able to leave our bags there during the day when we visited the city. Breakfast was okay. There was hot water in the shower and shampoo.

They didn’t have the rooms I booked and gave us rooms on the top floor that looked like a room to storage beds(it had 5 beds) You could tell the room was under renovation or something. I don’t think the rooms on that floor were supposed to be booked, they don’t show up on Booking.com. Apparently clean, but got bug bites the next morning, had to do laundry just in case. Breakfast wasn’t pleasant. Be aware that the butter is not butter, it’s margarine. We asked if it was butter from cow milk, she said it was but since it didn’t taste like it we asked for the package and it said it was made with vegetal oils.

Location. You can leave the bags there till you leave the town.

Paying more than we should have

I was charged about half the cost booking.com stated and tried to explain it to the owner who insisted on us paying more than the quoted price. My husband was sick and already in bed otherwise I would have gone somewhere else. So be careful. On the up side great shower.

After 2 days hiking in the Inka trail, when I arrived the hot water was not working. There was someone working there but he didn't know how the water functioned...so I had to have a cold shower.

We only had hot water in the shower 1 out of the 2 days. The shower curtain was useless so water splashed everywhere and the entire bathroom floor was continuously wet. The breakfast was very mediocre; stale bread with jam and an egg. All the reviews we read said Maria makes you feel at home but we did not feel that way. Maybe it was due to the language barrier (we don’t speak Spanish and Maria doesn’t speak English) but we didn’t feel comfortable at all asking for help or advice - when we tried to ask for laundry options we got basically no help. Also, she tried to charge us the 18% VAT which is only for Peruvians. I would not stay here again.

Very few plugs in the room to charge the phones.

Maria was very welcoming and help us with all our requests. The temple/fortress is super near the hotel, a 3 minutes walk. The train station is also near (10-15 min walk or super fast in mototaxi). A lot of restaurants nearby.

Do not book this place. The owner is unfriendly, rude and the negative wibes u feel is not pleasant. I showed up 30 min early and the place was closed. Called but she did not pick up Phone. Sent a message. No answer. 2 hours after check in time I manager to finally get her to open for me. Aggressive. Money, money, money.....
