Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PeruOrr room was not very clean, the floor was dusty and it seemed to not have been cleaned or vacuumed properly for a while, which did not bother us very much because we have seen much worse on our travels. Unfortunately our bedsheets seemed dirty when we arrived, so we asked to change them, which was not a problem. Maybe it was just a bad coincidence, but give a look to your sheets before laying down ;)
Our stay at El Sleepy Mouse was okay. Nothing particularly special, 10-15 min walk from the Center of Cusco. The hostel was nearly empty, so we had everything to ourselves. Staff was friendly and flexible. There is a kitchen were you are not supposed to cook meals, only prepare breakfast or sandwiches but as the hostel was nearly empty, we cooked diner one night and it did not seem to be a problem. But keep that in mind in case you stay there during not crowded times. Bathrooms and other common rooms were clean and there was hot water, which is not always the case in Peru ;) So we were lucky on that.

NetherlandsIt was very quiet in the hostel, with not a lot of guests and when we left for the Salkantay trek and wanted to check-out, the lady was gone.
Comfortable beds, kitchen and hot shower. We could leave our bags during our Salkantay trek. The location was very good, within walking distance of all hotspots in town.

RussiaStaff tried to charge my VAT tax 18% on top of my booking price, even though foreigners are not supposed to pay vat, by law. staff kept insisting, but I flatly refused. Then they tried to add 11% commission for card payment. I also refused. it took a lot of arguing and threat to leave for another hostle to simply pay the price I was supposed to pay in the first place. ridiculous. there was no hot water in the morning, staff just threw up their hands and offered no solution, couldn’t shower, thank god I was already going to another hostel. wifi didn’t work from my bed (female room), had to go to the corridor to use it you have to buzz in and wait for staff to open the door even during the day, which is really annoying
Super comfy beds, soft white sheets, everything very clean, kitchen seemed clean, there is hot water and free tea available.

United KingdomThey charged me VAT of 18% on top of the price on booking.com. I explained that international tourists who are in Peru less than 60 days don't pay this but they insisted. This is a scam. Do not pay the VAT here!
The accommodation is fine and basic. They will store luggage for many days which is good for anyone going on a trek.

United StatesThe hostel is kind of far away from the main square, so just expect to walk a bit more. Also, the room we got had windows opening into a main area, with no curtains. So the light and noise would wake us up really early, and there was less privacy than I expected. I think that was unique to our room though, and the other rooms looked like they had more privacy. The showers are difficult to figure out at first. You have to turn on the hot water heater on the second floor.
The value of this hostel is amazing. The fact that you can get a room for that cheap is great. The staff is also incredible - I had a lot of trouble figuring out the shower, and the guy at the front desk not only was happy to help, but asked later on if I had figured it out. We also arrived really early in the morning (like 7am), and the staff let us into our room as soon as it was clean. The kitchen is ok - as others have mentioned you're not supposed to cook in it, but you can store food & there's supplies to make coffee and tea.
