Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe property always is closed which is good for safety but sometimes is annoying to call them every time to be open. Also the breakfast is not good, really poor. And finally the wifi conexion is not good at all
The location was almost perfect, around 5 min walking of Plaza de armas, really good conexion with all the important places in Cusco.

GermanyThey have some water issues in Cusco, so sometimes the hostel doesn’t have enough water for hot showers. As mentioned above, some of the rooms don’t have a window to the outside.
It’s a basic hostel, some of the rooms don’t have a window to the outside (just the inside stairway, which was not so nice). We stayed here twice though, because it was cheap and the Wifi was working pretty well. On the second stay we got a room on the top floor next to the very small terrace where 2-4 people can sit outside. The kitchen is very well equipped and spacious, that was a big plus!

United StatesWe loved our stay here! The only bummer thing is the free breakfast only included coffee and bread. We ended up buying stuff for breakfast and making it ourselves.
It’s about a 10 minute walk from the plaza, close enough to walk everywhere but far away enough that it’s a quiet hostel. The kitchen was spacious and had everything to make a meal. The staff graciously let us stay in the common room for a couple of hours as we waited for our night bus.

IrelandThe front door of the hostel was always locked during day and night so you had to find staff to be able to get out or in which was a little inconvenient. I think guests should have a key. But they did leave a key for us the morning we were leaving at 4am for Salkantay trek which was good so make sure you ask the night before if leaving early so you can get out
Staff were lovely, hot water, rooms were cosy, free breakfast of bread and tea/coffee, we were able to sheave our bags here while doing Salkantay and on our last day after check out

AustraliaThe hot water was hit and miss and there is often a bit of noise/light at night from the road and from other guests as the rooms are very close to eachother - for the great price you pay, this is fine though.
Very affordable for private room with shared bathroom. Friendly staff and great kitchen with tea/coca leaves to help yourself to. Good location close to everything, very safe.

AustraliaOne of the shared bathrooms doesn’t have a shower curtain, so you can’t really use the shower or the entire bathroom gets wet. That means there is one good shower for the whole hostal. They deadlock the front door at night, so you can’t get out. We had a rainbow mountain tour booked and were supposed to be picked up at 4am, but we couldn’t get out of the hostal. We had to call the number on Booking over and over until someone finally woke up and came and unlocked the door. This also isn’t safe if there is a fire.
Comfortable rooms, good wifi, great kitchen

United KingdomNo specific common area so other guests hung around on the chairs outside the rooms and were quite noisy at night.
Bed was comfy, had a large smart TV which was actually nice as I was having an early night. Location good, close to everything. Shower was hot. Good price

Polandit was often hard to get to hostel, because the main door was closed and there was no one at the reception (you don't get that keys). when we arrived we waited half an hour ringing the bell and knocking the door, even though our arrival time was confirmed by the owner (and finally hostel guest let us in, the owner was sleeping like a log). the owner charged us additional fee (18%) which i think shouldn't be added
the room was comfortable, there was always hot water in bathroom. kitchen was well equipped.

IrelandIt’s only a small criticism but sometimes there wouldn’t be toilet roll or soap in the bathroom so if that’s just checked more often , that would be great!
Its really good value! They have comfy beds and we were surprised when we came back to the beds made , they even folded my pjs that were under the pillow which was nice! The location is very good, 7 minute walk from the centre. They also minded our bags while we did Machu Picchu which was very kind.

United KingdomRooms were very close together and so it was quite noisy. The place lacked any atmosphere. You had to find a staff member to let you in or out which could take some time. The bed sheets didn't fully fit the bed. Overall, a very cheap stay and adequate facilities but did not reflect the other very good reviews. Wouldn't pay full price.
Good location. Room was a good size. Very cheap (looked like there was a promotional price, wouldn't have been happy with it for the full price).

SpainThe bathroom was super dirty even to the point that it wasn’t working… somebody poo, it was the worst hostal that I’ve been in my life, they just have 2 bathroom for all the rooms, during the night there’s no hot water. The breakfast was very simple… they don’t accept card payment

United StatesThe wifi passwords on the wall didn’t work, and the wifi was down a lot. The workers didn’t speak a word of English so didn’t explain that I could go down to the first floor and use it there (again with a different password). Also, the streaming didn’t work because of the lack of wifi, even though I usually don’t use the tv. I was sick so tried it. If you don’t speak any Spanish you will struggle staying here. The front desk wasn’t always occupied, so I was locked out and had to wait on the curb. It’s not a place that is open all the time. Most of these things were issues because I had altitude sickness and really needed to connect with a friend and was very sick and isolated. The levels and rooms are very disjointed with no central place to gather, so it’s really best as a crash pad and not to meet other travelers.
The bedroom itself was nice (pictured) but if you’re up on the third floor you’re on the roof where all of the laundry gets done and lots of noise. The kitchen was nice too, and had hot water for coca and herbal infusions. Close to the plazas and centro de Cusco.

United StatesA home away from home, in Cusco! I stayed here for about seven nights in July 2023, both before and after my Salkantay Trek. The staff was always super helpful and kind, and I got a good night’s sleep here each night. Bathrooms are clean, water is hot, kitchen is very usable. Hawka Pacha also held my excess baggage while I was trekking. This place is a great value for anyone who wants to get a private room instead of a hostel bed, for not a lot more money than the latter. Also, Frank and the staff surprised me with a BIRTHDAY CAKE on my birthday while I was staying here, which absolutely blew me away! Such kind people. Would be happy to come back again!

BelgiumThis hotel was just the stay we needed after travelling for several months. Comfortable beds and the rooms come with a private tv with Netflix! The staff was so kind and we booked all our tours at the reception since they had very good prices. The rooms were cleaned on a daily basis and the kitchen was very well equipped. The showers were hot (which isn’t always the case in Peru)!

AustraliaWe absolutely loved staying at Hawka Pacha Hostel. Frank, the host, is wonderful and went over and above to help us throughout our stay. Alongside giving us advice on affordable sightseeing options that we could do on our own, he also helped us book some really great tours to Rainbow Mountain and the Sacred Valley. One of our aspirations was to hike the Salkantay Trek without a tour guide or group and Frank not only helped us plan and prepare for our trip but also booked our transport to the beginning of the trek and provided luggage storage while we were away. We would highly recommend staying here and if we return to Cusco, we will definitely stay again. The hostel itself is impeccably clean, has a well-equipped kitchen and the beds are really comfy. Cannot fault this hostel at all!
