How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Mama is a great hostess! So accommodating! Her property is large with lots of space. Rooftop terrace and included breakfast were added bonus!

Everything was wonderful
Two types of hpme made bread for breakfast, freshly squeezed orange juice, eggs of my choice - just the best breakfast ever! Mama was absolutely wonderfully warm and kind. Hostel was clean, water warm, bed comfy (with a proper duvet) location close to airport fantastic with plenty of shops and restaurants close by. There was even aircon in the dorms.

The mama i would say, she speaks some French which helped me after a long flight. There is a lot of space to relax in the house. Breakfast was nice

Best hostel ever. It's super clean, Mama is absolutely friendly and welcoming, supermarkets nearby and you can use the kitchen. There is nearly everything you could need. The cats are so cute and lovely. Great breakfast. Highly recommended!

Great place for our short stopover before a flight from Lima. Lots of space to chill and rest. Mama accommodated our very early arrival and the breakfast was solid. There are plenty of shops right outside (including healthy and organic options which was a god send as we were following a strict diet) and there’s a large kitchen available.

The wifi was a bit choppy in certain parts of the building, but worked fine in my room.
This hostel really deserves its reviews. The owners were so friendly and welcoming, and I felt super comfortable there. The location is also great and not too far from the airport. The shower pressure is strong. There are water coolers on every floor. There was strong AC in the room. Also privacy curtains, which I always appreciate. The breakfast was absolutely amazing. It honestly felt like a hotel-style continental breakfast. Mindblowing for a budget hostel.

Mama is so kind and welcoming. The whole place was spotless. Fully equipped kitchen to use, and mama makes a lovely breakfast. Common areas are big and comfy, and I was allowed to check in early. The beds are comfy, with plugs, lights and curtains on each bed. Big lockers, a nice shared bathroom. A spacious rooftop, and a good location between the airport and Plaza Norte bus terminal. Oh, and she has some very cute cats!

We didn't realize the window to our room didn't lock, but there were lockers for valuables outside of the room so all good
Mama was so friendly and welcoming, we enjoyed the breakfast, the rooftop and the non touristy location (great for Halloween). Close to the airport as well. A couple of nice local markets and cell phone stores nearby, everything necessary for the rest of our trip

The area the hostel is quite noisy, but therefore it's really close to the airport
The staff was really friendly and always helpful, the rooms were clean at all times and the breakfast was just exceptional with homemade bread and eggs

Very clean, great service from Antonella :) and awesome breakfast. I really liked that it wasn’t in a touristy spot and it was close to the airport! The cats make it even that much better :)

Owner is a really nice and welcoming Lady Who gives Tips how to get around Town. She lend me her Bus card. Very basic but very nice Breakfast and coffee, Perfect for getting to and from the airport. Has a nice roof Terrasse. Very clean

The place itself is very good but it's the people make it excellent. Mama is a beautiful person with big heart. Papa makes the best bread in Peru! We stayed here 3 times in a two months period. Delicious breakfast served every morning, big kitchen where we could make our food but also great and cheap vegetarian restaurant just across the street. Common area is super spacious and cozy. Mama also let us to leave our luggage there when we left to the coast. Everything was beautiful and easygoing. We highly recomment Mama Backpackers!!! <3
