How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Wonderful place to stay on the Salkontay Trail. It is a little further up the hill to give a leg up on the steep climb the next day. Food was great. It is a working coffee plantation and Mary gives a great tour for an extra 10 soles per person where we got to go through the complete process from picking to tasting our roasted result. Very comfortable and quiet. Recommended!

One of the best places I ever stayed in. •We got welcomed with fresh pressed juice •the rooms are nice and the beds incredibly comfortable with real blankets (don't find that often in Peru) •good and filling dinner and breakfast included •Mery gave us a tour on the coffee plantation, which was so wholesome. In the end, we grinded beans and brew our own coffee •Absolutely lovely family. They gave me free bananas and oreos as a snack for the next section of my hike •was not expecting to find such a nice and authentic experience along one of South Americas most famous hikes

The amount billed for the half-board at the property was higher than what was mentioned in booking.com advertisement.
Very good food and very nice people, beautiful location and great coffee. We came there with a group and we had plenty of room to stay together and recover from the hikes of the day. Good sandwiches were for sale to bring a long for the next day.

Mery's refugio is a small heaven on earth. They gave us an amazing coffee tour, fed us a fantastic dinner and breakfast (seriously Michelin Star restaurant worthy food!), and even gave one of our group members tea to make him feel better when he was feeling sick. I can't recommend this place enough. Don't think, book it!!!

absolutely recommend staying here! A highlight of our salkantay trek!! Such a beautiful Location, staff were so lovely and not only brought fresh juice when we arrived but also snacks for the next day! Dinner and breakfast were also some of the best meals we’ve had in Peru!! The room was also super clean and beds were so comfy!! A beautiful place to stay!!

WiFi is not that strong
Great Service, Mery was a wonderful host. Excellent dinner and breakfast. Better than other meals we got during our Salkantay Trek. The Guacamole was amazing and we got fresh juice and coffee from the plantations nearby. Hot showers. Possibility to stock up your supplies

The showers were shared, but was ok.
Mery and Rosalio were fantastic hosts. Rustic but comfortable accommodation in the forest. They offer a lot of really good food, much of it grown themselves. Freshly roasted coffee and a tour of their coffee farm. Probably my favorite place I stayed in Peru, due to their hospitality, food and location - great value at this price

The owners were fantastic, they greeted us with fresh orange juice, assisted us and other travellers with anything we needed. Outside the room there is a terrace where we could hang out. The breakfast was fantastic, and Mery was very friendly :)

Beautiful location, at the top of the hill were most of the campings and hostels are in Lucmabamba. It is immersed in the vegetation of a coffee plantation which you can visit. Mery was super nice and helpful, she cooked us probably the best dinner and breakfast (included in the price) we had during our Salkantay trek, with coffee and avocados grown locally. Beds were big and comfy, facilities were clean and the shower was hot. 100% recommended.

The food here was some of the the best we had in Peru! Mery and her husband were the perfect hosts, and treated us like royalty. The shower was hot and the room was beautiful. There were also magnificent jungle views. Recommended for everyone!
