Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

It was a good base for exploring the coast during our short visit. Hired a car from the lodge which was handy. Transfers arranged to and from the airport. Laundry facilities available.

United StatesThere didn't seem to be a garden green space to relax in though there was a hot tub available which we didn't use and a nice communal area.
Vanina was an exceptional host - nothing was too hard. She prepared an excellent local dish for our dinner at short notice on our first evening and presented me with a gift when she it was my birthday date when filling out the car hire form. Breakfast was excellent with some local Tahitian element every morning. She also hired out her little car to us which allowed us to see most of the sights of Tahiti over two days. Because my French wasn't so good she booked a local restaurant for us for the second night and we had the best seat in the restaurant watching the sun go down over our evening meal. She came with one of her staff to taxi us to the cruise ship pier and presented us with shell necklaces as we left. She was an excellent host and provided us with an insight into Tahitian culture that a big hotel wouldn't have provided.

United StatesWe did not have breakfast at the lodge but Vanina did bring us fresh fruit. Such a nice and unexpected treat. Viana makes you feel very welcome. She is so friendly and quite lovely. She picked us up at the port and took us to the airport as well. That was a real plus. Our room (the family room) was very nice, clean, spacious, and quiet. The breakfast area is large and has everything you need to prepare a meal. The Lodge is located close to a grocery store, a nice beach, several resturants and a lovely museum. We ate at The Sunset Resturant on the beach and at Yowko Pizza. The food was good and those waiting on us were kind. We enjoyed our stay at the Lodge and being in the community of Punaauia. We would definately stay at Tamanu Loge again. Thank you Vanina.

United StatesRoom faced right onto the shared lounge / courtyard so there was no privacy unless the curtains were pulled shut. There was a jacuzzi in the courtyard but only freezing cold water so not usable.
Adorable property close to the main road, walking distance to the supermarket and other shops. Comfortable room with spacious private bathroom, perfect for a one night stay. Host lived on site and was informative, kind, and responsive.

United StatesThere wasn’t anything that I didn’t like but if I had to say it would be the Wi-Fi connection. Although it did work it was weak or something it didn’t work at all.
Love the setting, it was very welcoming and homey but still feel like I’m on vacation.

United KingdomNothing!
The location was really close to the supermarket and lots of little shops and a few places to eat, so that was really convenient as we didn’t have a car. We were only there for one night before travelling on to the islands, so it was perfect for a place to rest and explore things within walking distance like the beach and cafes. Our host Vanina was very accommodating and gave us a recommendation for a bakery nearby for breakfast - it was excellent! Our room was large and comfortable and we really liked the outdoor lounge/kitchen area. I’d recommend it!

Location was great as not too far from the airport, and walking distance to a couple of beaches and a good range of places to eat. An outstanding Boulangerie is located within a couple of minutes walk. Vanina's hospitality and willingness to help we rate at 110%.

GermanyThe place is run by the owner and you feel all the passion that goes into runnning it. Everything was really nice, modern, clean. We were greeted with fresh pineapple juice and got shown all the facilities. Also, the place is close to a super market, a gas station, a bakery and so much more, where you can fill up all supplies that you need. You can use the fridge and have breakfast right there. The room itself was very clean, spacious, good AC and a TV - in case you need that.

United KingdomThere aren't too many and I'm hesitant to call them out because the owner is so nice and it is clear a lot of effort is going in to make the experience of visitors as good as possible. While the room itself looks spotless and well maintained, for whatever reason we did come across some ants. I appreciate these are common in the Pacific Islands and it's important to say that we came across fewer in Tamanu Lodge than we did in some 4* hotels we stayed in. However, here we did find some on our bed, as well as in the bathroom, which wasn't overly pleasant. This may have been unlucky, as there are signs saying food isn't allowed in the room, so it's clear the owner is consciously trying to avoid this problem. Perhaps more could be done as others may be more bothered by it than us.
The most important positive to call out is the owner who couldn't do enough for us - she was very friendly and helpful throughout and it is clear that she is giving everything to make Tamanu Lodge as good as it can be. People mention the location, but if you look on the map you should know what to expect. We chose it for the proximity to the airport - not super close but a better option that many of the motels situated right beside the airport. There are some restaurants, fast food places and shops within a 5 minute walk of the property, but most do close by 8pm. The lodge had a common area with useful facilities, such as a washing machine. They also provide a transfer service to and from the airport for an extra fee. The room is nice enough - what we would expect for this price bracket. It is a small lodge - only 2 rooms as far as I'm aware, so it feels like there's more of a personal touch.
