Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe bed in the double room wasn't the comfiest, but you get what you pay for.
Great staff and location. You can book your diving through the accommodation as they own a dive shop. I met a good group of people staying here. The social area could be a little more inviting.

United StatesThe island has frequent power failure. They could use a generator here. Bring a good flashlight. The place is adequate. Considering there are dirt roads surrounding it, it’s not bad. Free service water, AC when there is power. I like the orientation of the bunk beds, easy to get in and out. Big lockable storage under entire bed if you’re on bottom. Market next door with restaurants.

AustraliaOnly thing was that privacy curtains didn’t actually cover the whole bed so you’d had to add a towel or something. Not a really social hostel and their common area is pretty dark (not that I think that’s a big deal bc mostly people are out during the day here anyway)
Comfy beds, friendly staff, good value for money (it’s called budget inn for a reason ofc, but for what you pay it’s a great hostel!!)

GermanyLocated next to the market but not loud. Water refill and private space since the beds are entered from the front and have a curtain. Big common area although no one really used it during my stay. I think most people just hang out at their dive shops. They cleaned the floor in the room at least once a day.

New ZealandNothing but it could be some improvement on the toilets and shower, some were out of order and loo not working quite well, also challenging to close some of the doors.
Just 1min away public market. Staff is very nice and run cleaning at least three times a day to keep common areas and dorm clean. Rooms are spacious with a lot of room for your belongings. Comfy bed and two pillows, what a treat! Hot shower is a plus on islands like this one.

United KingdomThe hostel was not very sociable for solo travellers.
This was a great budget option to stay in Malapascua. I also would add that it was very clean, I have never stayed at a hostel so close to the beach which was so clean. I got a good night sleep every night even being up early to dive.

FinlandThe lounge area was very quiet, no music and activities. Overall, the hostel did not have a very social vibe but this might be due to off season.
This hostel had very clean bathrooms and showers (eventhough some showers had a lot of mosquitos). The bed was a private "pod" with a comfortable mattress.

IsraelThe mosquitoes in the showers are horrible, I swallowed one by mistake 🫣I’m not spoiled but the showers are gross. Ac doesn’t work all day only night till morning. The lobby walls are covered with foam to make it sound proof due to the karaoke but since the island is so humid and rainy sometimes it’s moldy and the room smells bad. I didn’t like the to get to the dorm room you had to pass outside, it’s uncomfortable in the rain with the mud and etc
Central location right next to he market, a few minutes walk from the beach and also from the port - no need for bike. Ac in the dorms works great and there are a lot of fans to circulate the air. The dorms always felt clean and were in fact cleaned a few times a day. There’s a rod outside with hangers for you to dry your clothes. Free water. Friendly staff!

FinlandThe WiFi only works in the common room, the photos about the common room are not accurate (it's really dark and smells like mold). You can't charge your phone in your bed because the plugs are so old that they are loose. One day they didn't have a chef so then the restaurant wasn't open. Also there is a sign that staff gets a bonus if they have more than 9 in booking/Hostelworld which seems impossible compared how the hostel is right now
It's very reasonable priced, the dorm has Aircon and curtains. They have restaurant on site so I could order breakfast before my morning dive. The place is so cheap that I met a lot of cool people (cheap places have the best people!) Shower had hot water and was cleaned often. Very clean dorm as well. Nice staff.
