Honestly nothing, it exceeded our expectations.

After traveling for 8 hours, being greeted by drinks was a very pleasant surprise. Especially because they are complimentary!!! Staff went above and beyond for us to accommodate all of our request (Giancarlo, Adriel, Cristian, Hector). The view from the rooftop is amazing. The rooms are cozy and very comfortable. We enjoyed our stay here far more than the Fairmont El San Juan, by far better service better rooms, easy access to Old San Juan and the bakery on the corner takes the win. We will definitely be returning to El Colonial and recommend to others.

Honestly no cons for me.

This was my first time in PR even though my husband is a native. We don’t have kids and so the main attraction for us was the no kids policy. (Nothing against kids lol) The included open bar was just a bonus. The staff was EXTREMELY friendly and really made us feel important. Customer service is everything to me being in the customer service industry and they exceeded all expectations. I felt very safe at this hotel. No one can just walk in from off the street. Security code is required. The parking garage is literally a four minute walk, staff will tell you the short cut. The parking garage gives you a discount with the proper documentation from the hotel and they also have security, which we loved since we rented a car. We were traveling to the country to visit family but if you’re staying in old San Juan you really don’t need a car. Food available by the hotel til 3am. The bath tubs to cool off on the roof and the view is amazing. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking into staying here. I didn’t want to leave and I will DEFINITELY be back. Take advantage of the full bar!!!

The stairs, but I survived. I would not suggest if you are elderly,have disabilities or poor health issues, those stairs are no joke. Other than that I loved it.

It was a secure place had to have a code to get in and out. It was in the midst of everything. You could walk out of the hotel and walk to mostly everything. Oh and the uber prices weren't expensive at all if you wanted to venture further out. The most I paid was 12.00 that was to go from my hotel to the airport. The rest of the prices were 10.00 or less.

24 hour free bar is a great offer. Excellent location. It has no parking but they reached a nice deal with a parking nearby that makes it (relatively) inexpensive for the area. Luis and Christian do an excellent job helping you out in just about everything.

Didn't like that we had to go up those stairs after a late night or full day of exploring. But atleast we got our exercise which balanced out the drinks and food we consumed.

We loved the location, it was within walking distance to everything, we only used uber for traveling to the beach and LaPlacita(nightlife). We loved the rooftop deck, it had a very nice view and breeze, I could easily fall asleep there. Bed was very comfortable and TV was huge. The staff was attentive and never let us forget to grab a drink at the open bar. I also liked that at checkin and checkout they would take your bags and tag them so you could go out enjoy while waiting for your room or car to airport. We could also still use the facilities and get drinks while checking out. We also got to keep the bracelet they give you at check in which was a nice little momento

Unfortunately, parking was inconvenient. They did provide us with a discount voucher for a parking garage that they have an agreement with - a ten minute walk away, but still expensive to leave overnight. There is a cheaper garage another 5 min walk down the street away from the center, that is $5 per day; $10 overnight. The room was clean but I think with the humidity and maybe grime from our shoes, the floor tended to be sticky when walking around barefoot.

Location was excellent, within old San Juan and everything is walkable. Very cool open bar concept and very nice staff available to check us in and provide drinks. Cool amenities such as rooftop lounge area with 3 open-air tubs!

Great place to stay in Old SJ. Staff friendly felt welcomed, clean rooms, open bar which was nice to unwind from travel and 1st day. Would definitely stay here again. Would stay here again. However, did lose water pressure (no pressure) for the 4th floor due to hotel pump issue. Hotel was very accommodating during the outage and allowed us to shower in an unoccupied room on a lower floor where there was water. Water was restored overnight and resumed normally the next morning. While inconvenient, the staff did all they could to minimize the discomfort. While everything didn't go perfectly, the pluses more than made up for the annoyances. While the drinks are free for guests, the selection is a bit limited. However, free is a nice bonus.

Rating based on now the property was described, not what I hoped it would be. Yes, stairs were involved as expected - 4th floor. Staff was great and carried luggage up and down. Arrival reception was great. Staff very, very helpful. Welcome cocktails to start. Staff very attentive, and offering free water, sodas or drinks anytime we passed through lobby. Location is great! Temporary check-in parking near entrance was very helpful. Discounted parking at nearby (3 blocks) was appreciated - discounted heavily for hotel guests. Bathroom was clean and functional. Had warm water in shower at various times throughout the day, and great water pressure.

No elevator. I realize that this building is over 150 years old, and shabby chic is popular. It's a completely different vibe than the new downtown, but I prefer the area. Shower was a bit of a disappointment, very low pressure, and my wife took a shower in the evening, and there was no hot water left. All in all, a great stay, but make sure you are up for the "boutique" experience Would stay again

The architecture and historical features are beautiful. The lobby and bar area are comfortable and inviting. The WiFi and tv worked well. The open bar and morning coffee put it over the top!

The only down fall the place had was the shower water was either too hot or too cold.

This place is located in the heart beat of Old San Juan. It is a quaint place with modern touches. the staff is very kind, exuberant and take very good care of their guests. 10/10 recommend staying here if you are looking for old charm, adults only and all you can drink bar service ( not just alcohol).
