Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsThe host, Stefania, is an absolute amazing host. She is very conversational and interested in her guests, asking them about their plans and giving suggestions. Normally breakfast is between 8.30 and 10.30, but twice we had to have breakfast at 7.45 because of an early tour that morning. She kindly made sure there was food for us, putting down exactly what she knew we liked without having to ask for it. The view from the breakfast area is just stunning. The bed is comfortable and fills up most of the room, but there's enough room to store your suitcase, clothes and toiletries. There's also a nice balcony. The location is wonderful, there are two bus stops five minutes away from which you can get to the centre in about 15 minutes, from early morning to late evening.

Czech RepublicInefficient reception. No staff or service after 5pm. Car parking, when any spaces are free, in a small public car park 150m down the road. Located on a very steep hill, with not a very easy walk either down into the town or up the hill.
Nice old building and garden, in a very pleasant area. Comfortable room, if a bit small, with a balcony with a great view.

United KingdomFantastic setting with amazing views and lovely garden space. Really comfortable beds. You need to be fairly fit to walk to town and back or up to Monte but the location and views are well worth it and it's also easy to reach by bus

SlovakiaNothing actually, everything was ok.
It is a charming place with the rooms furnished by the vintage pieces and with the beautiful garden. The manager was friendly and helpful, we've got some good advice, even a little snack pack as we had to leave yet before breakfast. We had a very pleasant stay, much recommended.

IrelandBreakfast was a bit late. Sometimes we had to stay without them, because breakfast is served at 8:30, but we already had to be in town for excursions.
I am satisfied with everything. The view from the balcony was amazing. Breakfast was delicious. The hostess herself is nice and helpful.

PolandThe location for the ones who cannot drive can be challenging. The Funchal itself is the city on island with the heights so, walking to the center and back was a pain for us. Our knees were almost dead after a week of stay. However, if you have a car it should not be a problem.
First of all - nice host, she is really welcoming and helped a lot during our stay in Funchal. Breakfast was good as well. The most important - the view from the apartment is amazing.

DenmarkBeautiful property close to Monte and the sled rides overlooking Funchal. Only a 30 minute walk from downtown if you brave the steep hills, which we did - otherwise buses are very accessible. Rooms are small and the house itself is old but if you prefer local charm to a very modern hotel, you will get plenty of it. We loved our stay. There is a pool and a small kitchen available for use from guests, and you can buy some drinks and snacks on site. WiFi works well. Parking available where you can find it on the streets. Host is extremely sweet and takes time to greet to everyone at breakfast and is happy to answer questions and share tips. Breakfast was very generous - bread, fruit, eggs, yogurt, sweets, coffee, meat and cheese. A lovely spot to enjoy the morning sun with other guests. Don’t overlook the area - there are some nice low key local eateries like a pub and seafood restaurant that are delicious and cheaper than many similar meals downtown. We also dropped in on the local CrossFit box nearby, can recommend if you are into that sort of thing.

United KingdomOnly a small issue for us. We are both tall, the bed was a double and a bit short for us but it didn't take anything away from our lovely stay.
A comfortable room in a small hotel. The continental breakfast was more than adequate to see us through to a coffee and snack lunch whilst out. A beautiful shaded garden and patio area for outside dining with views through the neighbouring trees of Funchal and the harbour. A swimming pool, small kitchen and use of a fridge and freezer are much appreciated. Very quiet at night, good street and outside lighting for late returns. Stephania is a very attentive host and nothing is too much trouble. She has a fantastic team working with her to make your stay very enjoyable and relaxing. Free car parking nearby with a short, slightly steep walk uphill to the hotel. Learn from us, the latch to open the gate is on the inside! Make use of the local bars for dining, they are incredibly cheap but plan your walking route carefully,. It's very steep travelling north and south, east and west is much flatter! Restaurants in Funchal require a car, taxi or local bus as the roads are quite arduous to walk unless you climb mountains regularly! We stayed for eight days using a hire car, not for the feint hearted, but it made the whole island accessible. The basket gondolas use the road the hotel is situated in but stop about 100m north.

Czech RepublicJust keep in mind that A Casa Do Caseiro is located in the middle of the way to Monte - which provides beautiful views but also means you need to walk a steep hill to get there (and parking around is quite difficult).
Very beautiful building with a great terrace and lots of plants. The swimming pool was really good as well as having a shared kitchen. Very nice staff.
