Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PortugalNo immediate parking. Unloading the car meant blocking the single track road for the duration. Difficult to find when driving past. Car parks are a good walk away and generally full on arrival.
Solidly built hotel in the centre of town and adjacent to the castle. Very quiet even when the hotel was booked. Family run hotel where all staff worked tirelessly to look after the guests. Many languages spoken by the staff. Very clean and tidy. Breakfasts were amazing and so much better than a ‘standard’ continental breakfast. Dishes on offer were changed daily but included baked Brie with Peach or quiche or… Home made jams and even real quince marmalade! Staff assisted in taking bags to the room as there’s no lift but there is a stairlift, to both floors, for anyone who needs it. Maintenance issues, once reported, we’re resolved in a short time.

United StatesThe door entry for after hours could be improved. It didn't work for us at first try. For some guests, an elevator, which I didn't see, would be helpful.
The room was large and very functional which is unusual for Portuguese hotels, not those over designed with usability challenges. The staff was very friendly. The breakfast was great and always being replenished with fresher items like scrambled eggs. The bed was very comfortable. I even asked the the front desk what kind of mattresses they used which was some good Spanish brand. I would stay there again. In fact, I tried but there was no availability for the dates I needed.

United KingdomNothing to add. It was perfect.
We had an excellent stay at A Muralha. It was better than anything we could have imagined. The size of the room, the bed and the view was fantastic! Everything was spotless and perfect. The option of relaxing upstairs on the rooftop was also a bonus. Excellent location, facilities and staff! To top it off, the breakfast provided each morning was incredibly delicious with fresh produce and dishes which were different everyday. It was our highlight of the day.

Staff was fantastic! Super helpful with any issues we had. Suggested wonderful restaurants for dinner and even made a last minute reservation for us at one of them. Breakfast was delicious and just the perfect meal to have before a fun day in Tavira. Our room was clean and quiet, the beds were very comfortable and the black out curtains worked great.

United StatesThe parking situation is a bit difficult and I move my car twice over three days. You can use a loaging zone to drop off luggage. Then move your car several blocks to the free parking
The location is at the heart of the city with easy access to the beach ferry and the wonderful beach. My wife and I attended Mass at a church very close to the hotel. It’s a great family destination and the ferry ride is nice with many variety of shore birds. Many young families at night enjoying the music and dancing.

United StatesThe bathroom. It was large but it had a dangerous step in the middle of the bathroom that you had to go up to get to the toilet and the bathtub level. This was a tripping hazard, especially at night. Even once you were aware of where the step was, upon exiting the bathroom, the step down occurred in such an awkward spot that you could easily fall down from taking a misstep.
The breakfast was really good. The room was large and clean. The staff was pleasant and helpful.

SpainThe room lock didn't work, but it didn't really disturb us.
The location is just perfect, in the very heart of the city. Our room windows went out to the street, and I was worried it would be noisy in the morning, but not! It was very enjoyable, nice bed, comfy cushions. Despite the absence of the AC, the room was perfectly cool (I am very particular about the temperature). Will absolutely come back.

This is an older hotel in the heart of the old town. Clean, quiet, comfy beds, with excellent staff. Breakfasts are a treat each day. Recommend. We would stay again for sure. Free, safe, parking area 10 min walk from hotel. We never needed the car during our stay.
