How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

It was a bit weird that there was no possibility to order snacks or drinks at the pool (for an expensive 5 star hotel). But overall not big enough of a point to deduct a star

Beautiful hotel and exceptional restaurant. Just 10 mins drive from Ericeira. Highly recommend this gem of a hotel.

Gym facilities (minuscule), with very little equipment. No weights. One bike and one running mill.
Breakfeast was understaffed. 20 minutes wait for fried eggs and for getting a expresso. No expresso or cappuccino coffee machine in the breakfast room one had to get it delivered from the bar (ie cold when we got it )

The mattress was a little hard for my wife.

Gym underequipped, coffee overpriced

Nothing, everything was spot on.
Best buffet breakfast I’ve ever had! Staff were amazing. Room was perfect, such comfortable beds and everything was so open and bright. We loved staying at Aethos and would be back in a heartbeat!

We had dinner at the restaurant one evening and service was extremely slow which was disappointing as the food was great.
Beautiful facilities and location, the sunset views from the hotel were amazing. It has a really relaxed yet luxurious feel as well as the staff being really friendly and helpful. The room was amazing with the most comfortable and enormous bed. The breakfast provided had so many options too. Also had the most relaxing massage at the spa on site, highly recommend! 10-15 minute drive from Ericeira and beaches.

Food options are slightly limited unless you want to drive somewhere as there are no places nearby.
Fantastic location for a getaway, the view is hard to beat and the design of the hotel is amazing. Excellent service from the staff. Restaurant is a great option for an upscale dinner.

Divine contemporary aesthetics that relax you in luxury. Friendly attentive staff who facilitate an effortless restful stay. Incredible dramatic setting on the cliff top which makes the sunset over the ocean even more spectacular. Great coffee and superb eggs and omelettes cooked to order with fresh fruits and pastries to start your day. We loved it 😍

The restaurant is not at the same level like the hotel. And the hotel should think about the quality of the coffee.
Very friendly staff. Fascinating location and stylish interior. Very clean and comfortable. Moreover they helped us with a forgotten bag.
