This is the most expensive hotel I've ever paid for. I needed luxury, and The Albatroz Hotel is WOW. The location of this wonderful hotel is just amazing. You live on the beach. The room was perfect. I got this warm feeling when I entered it. Good size (private) balcony with seaview. The reception staff was really friendly and service- minded. I thought maybe they would feel too "posh" for me. But at The Albatroz Hotel, all customers are welcomed with smiles and service. I must also give the kitchen staff a huge kiss. The food was amazing. The breakfast was the best I've ever tasted. Everything about The Albatroz was beyond expectations.

Tiny antiquated elevator with bare walls passing at both sides with no protection, no detection of objects in no-go zone during operation. Stench of open sewage pipe in the bathroom - opening window not much help. Brown stains on bathroom wall, a bit disconcerting when you notice as you reach for the toilet paper. Paintwork in the room looking tired, rusty bathroom door hinges and so. Lots of wood as it is a charming old building, but no attention for fire escape procedures, no meeting point for determining who is still in the building, no tracking of who is in or out. There is a smoke detector, one single sprinkler for a very large room, and a plan which points out a small spiral staircase, difficult for pensioners who are not surefooted such as us. During emergency situations, a bit unclear where to go at the next level down, but ok if you explore beforehand. Fires are clearly considered to happen only to other people, despite Lisbon's history. But I'm sure legal requirements are met.

Beautiful seaside view from breakfast terrace inside and out, very helpful staff. Excellent breakfast, hot and cold, ample supply kept up. Large room, tiny windows (top floor under roof) but again spectacular views. Padded walls, no sound from other occupants, just the sea. Very large and comfortable beds. Beautifully decorated old building, at least the part where we stayed and where the breakfast room and terraces are located.

Rooms definitely could use some updates. Furniture is old. Chairs/sofa’s materials ragged in areas and lightly stained (likely from years and years of use). It didn’t bother us, however.

Beautiful location next to the beach. Pretty views with crashing waves. Old school elegance. Rooms were fairly basic but no complaints. Breakfast was nice, nothing too fancy. Staff was nice. Bell hop was amazing.

But…We were very upset by the quality of the hotel restaurant, the worst thing was that on our first dinner here, when ordering a children's menu, we got a sharp piece of something in the ice cream. We still remember this as a bad dream; by a lucky chance, I got this fragment, not our child. The manager, of course, responded to our remark (although they did not even excluded the children's menu from the bill), but this should not happen in the restaurant of a five-star hotel. Therefore we do not recommend the hotel restaurant

I have stayed a lot at the hotel during late 90s when I was working in the Lisboa area. When I have ended my working life I have visit the Hotel with my wife during the last 5 years. We have since 5 years apartment in Lagos, Algarve and every time we go up to the Lisboa area we try to stay at the hotel because we like the hotel so much and all that the hotel has to offer. This time we visit Sintra/Cascais and had a short stop on the way home in Lisboa. We always feel that we are welcome back at the hotel.
