How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

All was ok!
Excellent apartment, full equipment with all needed things: washing machine, coffee machine. Very nice host! 1h by car to every place on Sao Miguel

The accommodation is centrally located, parking is free of charge around the accommodation. You can get the key during the day at the travel agency below the accommodation. The owner of the travel agency is very helpful and cares about the guests. The accommodation is very spacious and was very clean.

Check in was very straight forward and obtained the check in code from the Travel Agents Office immediately next door to the apartment. The accommodation was very comfortable with all the amenities that we needed. It was also in the middle of town so easy for restaurants etc.

Perfect! The best place we stayed at all over the Azores. The apartment was nice and spacey, super clean, the owner and his colleague were very helpful. If we come back to Sao Miguel, this will be our first destination!

The town bells chime on the hour nearby starting at 7am until 11pm, they will wake you if you are a light sleeper.
Nice property, well located in the town and good value for the spacious flat. The hosts provide towels for the nearby hot springs in Furnas which are espeiclly useful and a nice touch.

I like to sleep with the windows open. the church bells that ring every hour often ring 3 minutes before and after the hour..If you are a light sleeper this will not be your place to stay. However the windows are brand new and superior quality. if you choose to stay here close the windows and I am sure the sound will be greatly diminished. this location worked very well for us. easy to get to Caloura to see friends and for all island sights.
easy to find, super clean, stocked with essential kitchen and bath. nice linens. wonderful easy check in and informative staff. Washing machine a bonus for longer stays. Location on the island was perfect for exploring and markets close by. very friendly

Because is located very close to the church, the ring bells might be a bit annoying. That’s the only disadvantage I found, the rest so great!

Everything: the apartment is clean, cozy and decorated with love. The checkin is safe and easy. The location is great. The host is super nice - he was flexible enough to give us more time for free cancellation should we have opted for it. So glad we didn't. Really enjoyed our stay!

The place belongs to a tourist agency right next door. The staff of the agency was very helpful, he gave us good advice for the holiday. The apartment is very well located, 5-10 mins walking distance: beach, market, supermarket, bakery, marina with freetime activities organisers like whalewatching, snorkeling, kayak etc. Nice urban view. There was always parking lot in front of the house. This little town is beautiful, easily connects to the highway, but less crowded than Ponta Delgada, key attractions of the "central and east side" of the island are only from short drives away. The house itself is a renovated historic style building that adds to the authentic experience.

There is a church nearby that rings every hour. Some people might find it quite disturbing during nights.
Really friendly and helpful owners, very comfortable accommodation with kitchen good enough for cooking our own meals. This was great since there was a fisherman every day nearby the theatre. Price was also good for apartment this size.
