How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

A little bit of maintenance work required like in wardrobe, cabinets etc
Location is awesome, Mini Market at downstairs, Balcony, good value for money, I'm sure it's impossible to find hotels at this price with these benefits!

Very good location, very clean. We sit and eat in balcony like in a bar, because it was near main street. I would recommend for all my friends.

Very dark colours in the room. The nabos had free look into the room, if we wanted natural light. No light curtains. Ekstra pay 2 euro/day for using the safe - with no garanty.
God clean standard. OK equipment. Fine busconections - very important. The hotel is only fitted for sleeping. For reaching the town and beach you have to walk several kilometers. Very healthy.

Very noisy if you get a room on front. Extremely busy road day and night
Great apartment about 35 minute walk from Funchal. Nice and clean and nice staff. Great little cafe/bar below

It would have been nice to have a little more space, it was a little smaller than I'd expected. There wasn't space for chopping when using the kitchen for example. The road was quite noisy but the traffic noise did die down at night, however there was some other machinery noise maybe an air conditioning unit? That made a noise all night. We got used to it after a few nights though
Right next to the bus stop so very handy. Lots of amenities in the immediate vicinity. Kitchen well equipped. Staff were lovely.

The bathroom sink counter had no space for toiletries and no exhaust so the room would fog up. Very tight space.
The hotel was in a great section of Funchal. Less busy than the Old Town with all the amenities needed. Supermarket below the hotel, grocery store 5 min away, and lots of restaurants. Across the street is a fitness centre. Woke up every morning and jogged. Felt safe with lots of other runners.

Doesn't have a parking, but there are options down the street or you can use the parking of a nearby hotel for a €6 amount per day. We used the street parking and it was ok.
Very, very clean. Comfortable bed. The kitchen had everything you need. Wifi worked great. The staff was very welcoming. Has a small supermarket with a cafeteria below.

Because of the great location, sometimes the noise from the main street (cars etc.) can be annoying especially when it is quiet time of the day

A bit like the rest of Madeira, what's not to like!
Well appointed apartment in a good location at the heart of the hotel Quarter. Lovely promenade walk to the west of funchal starts just 5 mins away. The centre of funchal is a nice 20 min walk away, but with plenty of buses stopping in front of the hotel. The daily house keeping of the apartment was done to a very high standard.

No AC and in October was still very hot. Noisy from the street if you open the window.
Spotless clean, friendly staff helped me with airport transfer. It is easy to get old town by bus. The kitchenette is very useful if you want to prepare something.

We used fans to cool the room, it was September and they worked well.
Staff were great, and helped us with directions, we went to the botanical gardens, we toured the island with Lido tours which is approximately 1-2 blocks walking to meet tour, and they booked us airport taxi.The kitchenette was well set up. The rooms were very clean.Good value for your money.

My only complaint, was there was no air conditioner, and leaving the door open for air, it was very noisy from the street traffic.
Did not eat at the hotel.
