The set up of the room gave a feeling of space but lacked sensible storage for holiday clothes and accessories. Luckily I had packed most things of my things into fabric storage cubes but still lacked shelves to store them. The walk in shower looked excellent but needed care to prevent water leaking onto the bathroom floor. Out of the hotel's control was the noise factor. We expected noise and fun and fireworks on New Year's Eve, that was the reason for staying in Funchal but had not expected the amount of music noise and partying that seemed to go on into the early hours on other nights. The hotel was full so moving was not an option but we thought other rooms would probably be affected by outside noise as well.

The hotel was very smart, staff were friendly and helpful, the junior suite room was was a good size for a city hotel and clean. The New Year's Ball was excellently organized and exceeded our expectations and the staff deserve to be praised for their hard work.

It was a little noisy at night with the night club close by- but with windows closed it wasn’t a problem. Curtains didn’t close fully ( I am sensitive the chinks of light!) .

Excellent location , near to restaurants, the old town area and buses to explore the island. Madeira is so pretty and clean and everyone is very friendly and helpful. The Christmas lights and free musical events, near the hotel, on most nights made it even better .we also enjoyed the rooftop pool - a fabulous hotel right in the heart of Funchall.

Central location right in the heart of Funchal. Modern stylish interiors and excellent service. Comfortable bed with a choice of pillows. Good breakfast with lots of choice.

The room cleaning time differed every day. On a few occasions the room hadn’t been cleaned till late afternoon. When we got back at one point, we had no clean towels and no toilet roll which we had to wait hours for. Also the room we were in had no hooks, so there was nowhere to hang wet towels and beach towels to dry.

We would recommend this hotel to anyone. The hotel was centrally located in the main area. The room itself was beautifully designed and spacious, the bed was very comfortable and very big leading to a great night sleep. The bathroom who is also beautiful and had everything you needed. The hotel had great amenities including a rooftop pool, bar and sun lounges. Morning was incredible and included sparkling wine. The staff were very friendly.

Excellent hotel. Staff brilliant. Just be wary that one side of the hotel shares a road with a loud bar - best to request a room on one of the other sides if this is likely to pose a problem as sound proofing not perfect. Staff changed our room without a fuss. Breakfast great too.

Only 1 of 4 lifts go to the roof top, so could sometimes be a wait. But wasn't a bother. And that's me scrapping for a negative. Overall- amazing.

Before arrival we had lots of questions to do with accessibility for our friend in a wheelchair, but also NYE. The team at Barceló Funchal Oldtown were so responsive and helpful. On arrival is was the most accessible place we'd been at in our whole time in Madeira. The food was amazing and the breakfast next level. The pool was a like warm temperature and lovely to swim in with views of the mountains. Attention to detail throughout was luxury. Just a great stay

The coffee machine at breakfast kept breaking, which was a point of frustration.

The rooms are set-up to give you a perfect night's sleep. Big comfortable beds, a small pillow menu, silent air-conditioning. Our room (on the 4th floor) had no noise from the outside world, despite the hotel being in the city centre. The staff were really helpful in getting us an early taxi and a packed breakfast so we could get up early to hike.

Beautifully modern hotel in a wonderful central location. Very clean and beautiful interior, with great facilities such as a rooftop bar and pool. Very good breakfast with a variety of options available. The staff were very friendly, even provided us with a packed lunch on check out we we were checking out early and missing breakfast. I was staying here for my birthday and was kindly given a dessert and bottle of champagne by the hotel to celebrate. Would definitely stay again if returning to Funchal.

Rooftop pool area isn't large but this is a city centre hotel so more than adequate and was what we were expecting so can't complain.

This is an extremely well positioned hotel in the centre of Funchal, with very generous sized rooms. The bathroom is superb has everything and a lovely shower as well as a bath. Staff are friendly and efficient. Everything is well kept and spotlessly clean. Very comfortable and upmarket. Roof top area is lovely too,

The rooms are not double glazed, noisy early in the morning and at night until everything closes at about 10.30pm, the room was in a back street with bars below. Apart from that there was nothing I could say I did not like.

Good room standard, comfortable beds, nice breakfast, good lunch service, nice sunbathing area and pool. Staff overall very good service, location excellent for Funchal sightseeing, reception staff and visitor experience very good and helped with tickets for a boat trip which was appreciated.

Everything is superb about Barcelo brand!

The location is amazing. As soon as you step in the lobby, the fragrance and the vibrant ambiance of the hotel captures you. The staff is incredibly helpful. They answer your questions even before you arrive. When we were there, they helped out with most of the restaurant choices and excursion reservations. The outdoor dining area of Barcelo Funchal Oldtown is also the host to a live street concert on most of the lunch times. Around the corner, you can taste the best gelato on the island. If you go on a private cab tour around the island, make sure to ask for “Chico the driver” as your personal tour guide and yellow cab driver who speaks more than 3 languages and takes you around the history and contemporary status of the island through his vast knowledge. We will definitely book Barcelo Funchal Oldtown for our next visit to Madeira.

The staff were amazing and so helpful. They left a birthday cake in our room for my sister’s 40th and I hadn’t even told them it was her birthday. It was an amazing hotel. Very comfortable, great location and a beautiful rooftop to enjoy the sun. Would highly recommend!
