Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaIt was a bit of a challenge to find.
The location and view are exceptional. A very comfortable cozy little place that made us feel we had gone back in time. We wanted to stay longer! The visit to the castle (within walking distance) was delightful! We highly recommend this accommodation and would book here again!

United StatesA little gloomy inside, with all the bare stone (some whitewash would do wonders, in my opinion).
Very good location just a short walk from the castle (and from Dom Sancho restaurant inside the walls, which was terrific). House was nice and quiet, impeccably clean, breakfast was excellent.

LithuaniaBreakfast included only cold options: bread, ham, delicious cheese, jam, some cakes and fruits. We lacked some vegetables (at least some tomatoes and cucumbers).
Wonderful host - a very friendly, always smiling elderly lady, who spoke perfect French and surprisingly understood my "franc-spanol";-) We got a whole small house with a spaceous living room, fully equipped kitchen and 2 bedrooms. Everything was just perfect and impecably clean. Very good location, small walk to the castle, parking at the door of the lady's house. Home made breakfast was made of quality products. The best coffee we had in Portugal!

More than just a beautiful place to stay, the house was enjoyable, the bed comfortable, the shower great plus a wonderful breakfast. I only wish we could have stayed longer. It is a short walk to explore the castle and walls.

AustraliaWe stayed in the two bedroom stone cottage which was such a unique experience. It was very comfortable and clean with the inside furnishings very much in character with the cottage. There is a stove to cook on (but no oven). It is a very short walk to the castle with another tiny but very beautiful village (I think set up for tourism) inside the castle walls. There is an ATM and restaurant/s inside the castle walls as well. You can also drive all the way up to the castle and park. We loved our stay at this property.

United KingdomNothing at all.
Full of character. The house is perfect; very comfortable and beyond our expectations. Mrs Matos was the perfect host; looking after us and even giving us a brief history of the village and castle. The evening was peaceful and a joy to sit outside and hear peace and quiet. Fantastic. The castle, less that 5 minutes walk further up the road is a step into history. High, highly recommended.

United StatesThe rooms were hot when we arrived and it took us awhile to figure out how to turn on the air conditioning.
The breakfast was basic but charming. Lourdes was a gracious host. Absolutely loved the old village! This would be a great place to stay for a few days. Sadly, we only had one day. This is enough to explore the village, but I would have enjoyed staying one more day.

United StatesThe cottage we stayed in was not the one I expected to stay in; the property on booking.com is not the one where we actually stayed; it is under renovation. Without explanation as to why we weren’t in the cottage as shown on booking.com, we were shown to another nice cottage. There was no AC in the bedroom, only on the living room. The hosts were accommodating and when asked, explained that the cottage we thought we were staying in was experiencing an issue and that’s why we were placed in a different cottage.
The cottage we stayed in was confortable and had what we needed for a 1-night stay. It was easy to locate in the small village. The WiFi wasn’t working but was fixed relatively soon.

Very friendly host, tasty breakfast with fresh fruit, tasty meats and cheese, plus homemade cakes and jams. The house is two minutes walk from the lovely castle area, and from two good restaurants and a small shop. There is also a small bar right at the top of the castle with a great view. We found a fabulous 5 mile circular walk from the door of the house - amazing! Parking just outside the front door too.

Portugal. On your arrival, it would be nice to have coffe pods or at least tea bags, yet I do accept wasn't the best time for the host. Highlighting the house had a lower level ventilation, it would have made a more pleasant stay, instead of not having a proper sleeping night.
.The staff was very kind and helpful, bearing it was a could night the fire place was already working ahead of our arrival. The house was immaculately clean.

FranceIt would have been nice to have a hairdryer, and also a dvd player would be useful for when you don't understand a word of local television.
Lovely welcome, lady spoke no English, but did speak French, so no communication problems. We were very early arriving but she didn't seem to mind. The accommodation was very comfortable and clean. Nice breakfast in the morning. The drive up to Sortelha was breathtaking (especially when we met the school bus in the morning coming up at speed!) Would highly recommend. Lovely stay.

Everything at Casas da Lagariça was great! Super clean, the host is welcoming and super kind, make you feel at home. The location is superb, <5min walk from the major attractions and Sortelha is simply beautiful. The houses are very traditional and comfy. At the end of the day, after they walk around, we just sat outside in the sun, reading and chatting. It’s lovely!! On top of everything that is always good, the breakfast! Great coffee, homemade jams, fresh fruit, bread and cake.
