Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Belgiumthere was bad smell probably from shower drain first night , also if staying for couple of days you need to keep using same towels. It's fine for 2-3 days but would be good if you could ask for replacement when needed.
Good location close to train and bus. About 15 minutes walk to old Sintra city centre Large house , excellent kitchen

Hong Kong- The house was a bit damp. - Could improve with a washing machine.
A comfortable accommodation near the train station. We were a bit confused at the beginning in finding the right house but all sorted out quickly with a phone call. The house was very comfortable for 2 people, few minutes from the train station which is good to catch the bus to visit the various sights. Couple of good restaurants around too.

NetherlandsToilet paper was finished on the second day. It might be a good idea to check how long the guests are staying and provide enough. We had to switch on the main switch all the time, when we used a tea kettle and heating element, since it was too high load for electrical fuses. On the first day, when we wanted to wash our baby it turned out the there is no hot water in the shower. The owner came within 10 minutes and fixed it but we did not have time to wait for the boiler to make the water hot. The next day everything was fine. When we arrived, we wanted to check in earlier but unfortunately it was not possible. When we came it was a strong odor of perfume. Later it vanished, but there was a cigarette smell… There is no parking at the apartment, so you would have to look for one on the public areas.
The apartment is very good! It is spacious, clean, very comfortable. It has everything you need except washing machine. It is close to the railway station but sound proofing is so good that you won’t hear the trains. It has a good location. A big supermarket is just 10 min walking, a few restaurants are near by. It is very close to the city center.

NetherlandsThe bathroom drainage smells bad. The doors don't shut properly so the smell reaches the bedroom and the living room. There was some hair in the shower. Only one set of towel per guest, regardless of the number of your stay.
The location was great - it's very close to the train station.

United KingdomBy far OUR WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! if you are considering booking this apartment please read this before you consider!! We are frequent travellers and users of booking.com, and this is by far our worst experience to date. Firstly, we requested an early check in 3 weeks in advance when we had made the booking, as we were to arrive in Lisbon at 10:45am. We were told this may be possible, or may be not. The day before arrival we were told it was not possible, fair enough, but we were told we were able to leave our luggage and “go and enjoy a lunch” whilst the apartment gets cleaned. Our arrival time - 2:30pm - cleaner had not even been & check in was supposed to be at 3pm!! The staff are rude and if you are not Portuguese they will treat you like nothing & be very condescending in responses sent. We then arrived after at 5:45pm, almost 3 hours after the “original check in time”… cleaner had been but was still not up to scratch. The bed linen is filthy, myself and my partner now have spots on our face because of how dirty the linen is. 2 toilet rolls left for a 7 night stay?? Had to go out of my way to a supermarket and purchase myself… P.S - The only apartment that leaves a welcome card advising to “not take long showers due to a water shortage in Portugal” and “to not use water when washing dishes”… how are you able to wash dishes without using water? By far our worst ever experience, pay the bit extra to be treated like a human.. we’ll be claiming compensation, our complaint has already been sent to booking.com customer service. “Lovely stay” turned out to be the opposite of what it says on the tin…
Nothing.

United KingdomThe flat was not clean. The shower didn’t work properly. The water would take too long to drain and the entire bathroom had a very bad smell of stagnant water. The bathroom door needed to be closed at all times to avoid spreading the smell. The staff replied to our message when we raised that issue, but never did anything to fix it. We were there for more than a week, so there was a lot of time to fix it. This just makes it feel like the staff doesn’t care about the comfort of their guests.
Good location and flat is nice.

United StatesThe accomodations were not as advertised. There was no sofa bed. Just a full sized bed. The staff refused to provide extra linens to use the sofa as a bed. They assumed that 2 adults travelling together are ok sharing a bed even after I explained to them that I booked this place because it had a bed and sofabed. One of the lamps in the bedroom did not work. They refused to provide us with a second set of keys, even though two adults were staying here. The two pillows they provided were lumpy and felt more like old pillows one may keep around for a dog. When I requested 2 more pillows, they also refused. Lastly, even though we paid the city tax (2 euros per night, per person), everyday of our stay, I kept getting reminders to pay. They respond to messages, but several hours later.
The space was clean. There was coffee--though not enough for two people staying for 3 nights--a tea kettle and dish soap. Books about Portugal were helpful too. The staff was willing to lend me an iron--it was broken and dirty and spilled water everywhere, but it was still functional. The air conditioner worked, but there was no air conditioner in the bedroom.

United KingdomHost did not even leave a single toilet roll for a new guest, that has never happened to me before. Luckily we had one as we had stayed in our previous rental for a few days and had left one in the hire car. Imagine checking in somewhere unfamiliar late night and realising you need to go find a shop to buy... Also, there is no sofa bed for the 3rd person, there were just 2 2-seater sofas. How they can advertise this and accept bookings for 2 adults and a child of 13 yrs, when there is no sofa bed? It was not comfortable for the child to fit into the sofa but we managed as it was only 2 nights.
Quiet location, free car parking on street. Next to the train station for those taking the train from Lisbon. Main room had air conditioning to keep it warm - Sintra evenings in December can get chilly.

IsraelThe shower, the BED, the sofa
The location was quite convenient. The bed was AWFUL, not one comfortable chair or sofa to sit and rest. No response for any of our difficulties. The shower was barely usable, a larger person would find it practically impossible.

PortugalEverything was absolutely fine.
The house is very comfortable, it has everything you need for an excellent stay. Clean and tidy house, the kitchen had more than enough utensils to cook whatever we want. The bathroom was clean and tidy. Very cosy house and right in the centre of Sintra Village.

PolandA roll of paper towels would be nice. But otherwise it was more than perfect!
A perfect location: walking distance to most tourist attractions and even closer to the train station (trains to Lisbon every half hour). A magnificent view of the Moorish Castle from right out front. A spacious studio for two people with a fully equipped and functional bathroom and a kitchen annex. The kitchen equipped with all that is needed including olive oil and spices. Very clean! Very nice and very helpful hosts. The best restaurant in town (also "Dom Pipas") is downstairs in the same building. A perfect place to spend holidays. We will definitely come back!

FinlandGoogle maps shows wrong location, which was a problem with late check in without personnel. Phone service was helpful tough. Apartment was clean and cozy, mut smell of mold was strong. Bedsheets were moist, which was unpleasant, and there were no coffee capsules or spices, so we got our own. Otherwise the kitchen supplies were good and everything we could need during a 3 night trip was there.
Location is really good, apartment is decorated nicely and a little terrace (in no 7) is very nice. Price wasn't too high.
