How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Outside pool area was a bit grotty. The pool had a dark grey liner which made it look dirty, it probably wasn’t. It did however have a lot of leaves in it!
Very central for sights, really helpful and friendly staff, spacious bedroom

Great location, 10 minute walk to the Riberia area and down by the river. Very clean hotel, very comfortable beds and large rooms, lovely pool, great breakfast!

Nothing could have been better
The reception staff went out of their way to plan restaurants. Book tacos and gave us late check out. Very attentive, pleasant & professional

Lovely hotel in a great location. We didn't have breakfast there, but had dinner on the night we arrived since it was quite late. Great food, good variety. Room was very comfortable and the bathroom was spacious as well. Staff was extremely helpful and very nice. Would definitely stay here again.

I think for the quality of the hotel, maybe have fresh coffee in the room rather than instant coffee. A mini cafetière ?
Location was great, as was breakfast. Staff were all friendly and so helpful. Hotel was spotlessly clean. We were celebrating a friend’s birthday and got a room upgrade, which was lovely. We also arrived early and checked in early.

Written information in the bedroom is required on details such as wifi password and how often bed linen and towels are changed. Towels were not changed during our stay. It was not until we asked that we discovered that if we wanted them changed the towels should be left on the floor. We booked breakfast for each day but on the final morning we had to leave at 7.00 am for our flight. We were told that we could have a breakfast pack to take with us which would be an excellent meal and an eqivalent to the hotel breakfast. This was a real disappointment and was no where near the cost or quality of the hotel breakfast. There was two bottles of water and orange juice which had to bin at the airport. There was two small sandwiches, two small savories, two apples and two oranges. This was not a breakfast pack and well below what we were told to expect. At least a crossiant would have been better. If you are offered this ask for a refund rather than the pack. It is not worth it. We ask for the hotel to book a taxi to take us the airport. We were told there was a standard charge of 32 euros. The taxi driver told us the meter was showing 37.50 euros. This was another disappointing situation. I would suggest that you book a taxi directly.
Hotel is very modern and of a high standard. The facilities are excellent. Breakfast is very good with plenty of choice. Location is accessible walking distance to all the attractions within Porto. Staff are friendly and helpful.

All was great
Breakfast was Excellent with plenty of choices including fresh fruit and order to be made omelette. Rooms were very clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. I highly recommend the Catalonia for your Porto visit.

Would have liked if bed rooms were designated non smoking rooms.
Excellent breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice and the resident chef cooking an omelette with fillings of your choice right in front of you. Location is superb with easy walking access to all the sights. Very friendly and cheerful staff made the stay at Catalonia Hotel a memorable one.

Bathroom door see thru and water temp in shower in our room too hot/cold- no in between. I would have preferred a bathroom door that can also be properly closed.

The spa was very underwhelming. No proper changing room or shower in there.
Location was great. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. We didn't eat breakfast in the hotel but had a couple of evening meals, which were excellent. The hotel had a garden with sunbeds, which was nice to relax in.
