Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesDinner requires a reservation, but restaurant was nearly empty- perhaps because of staff shortages. Unfortunately, for all we read about the restaurant (Michelin rated), the food was truly uninspiring and mediocre. Lovely and extensive wine list however
Property is incredibly beautiful and relaxing. Pool area was lovely, gym was clean and decently outfitted with new equipment. Beds are wonderful- a true king size, Room was very large and comfortable but the retro theme was overkill/ especially the wall murals. Breakfast was amazing! Staff was very attentive.

PortugalThe restaurants are too expensive. Italian one very small amount of food for the price and the pizza was minimal toppings. Portugues one too expensive so didn't try. It's a bit far from town- perfect for a car but if you are without one you'd need to figure that out.
AMAZING breakfast, nice spa area and great massage. Beautiful old building and grounds to wander around in and peaceful in the country.

United StatesFor the most part food was very good accept for one of the dinners. The location is beautiful but if you don’t have a car you are fully dependent on Bolt/taxis to go anywhere. Neither will in anyway keep us from returning. This is really a spectacular place.
Surroundings, hotel, spa, breakfast. All was fabulous.

Historical building beautifully preserved. But, also quality modern facilities and amenities. Room and bathroom of perfect size with a balcony overlooking the pool, garden and verdant Alentejo countryside. Delicious buffet breakfast. Very polite, friendly and helpful staff.

United StatesBreakfast was amazing, but we were a little let down by the restaurants at dinner (especially the vegetarian offerings).
Such great facilities in a historical building! Especially loved the beds, the gym, the sauna, and the history tour. But the highlight had to be staying in such a wonderfully restored convent. That was a special treat.

PortugalLight in the bathroom and room is very dark. Needs a light above the mirror. Very difficult to see. Windows in the pool area was dirty and pool area could be nicer. No water in water dispenser by pool etc. Some areas of hotel are very cold. It’s a beautiful hotel but a few small improvements would help a lot.
The history and the building is beautiful. Great staff! Church is stunning. Breakfast room very special and breakfast excellent.

United StatesLimited food options for lunch. The bar acoustics were so loud that it was unpleasant if there were many people present. This was the only option for lunch. Since it is out of town a car is good to have but parking around the old town was confusing. The hotel will call a cab.
Unique facility having been a former monastery. The property is beautiful and the history so interesting. The sanctuary beautiful and the property gives a tour explaining the history and restoration and new additions that have been done. The food was good and breakfast options were great.

Historic hotel. Lots of history. The restaurant where breakfast was served was an old wine cellar which was beautiful. We had dinner in that restaurant and it was exceptional. We ordered broiled sea bass with lobster risotto. Absolutely delicious! Our room in the new section (built in 2005) was beautiful quite large and had a balcony overlooking the outdoor pool. The indoor heated pool was beautiful as well. Great hot tub, Turkish steam room and a sauna. It was very relaxing.

United StatesLuckily, we were able to get a reservation at the Italian restaurant. We tried the pizza, excellent. Then, we tried the Italian dishes..excellent. Great wine too. I heard some complain because they could not get in. It was booked. Maybe better idea you let me know ahead of time to book at your dining restaurants. The pool was pretty but the water was so cold. Loved lunch by the pool. Easy to take taxi into cute little town. We bought a couple plates to take home and love them. On display in our new home. Loved the indoor pool. Great idea..

United StatesThe air conditioning struggled to keep up with the summer heat. Our family of 5 took the outdoor pottery class which was lovely, but our 5 cups never came in the mail as had been promised, which was disappointing.
The wine tasting (offered in English) was educational and fun! Loved the breakfast buffet, especially the honeycomb. The Italian restaurant was great for lunch and dinner. The pool was gorgeous.. Highly recommend overall!
