How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

An amazing little boutique hotel with beautifully appointed rooms in a central location. The hotel manager and host is the best host I had on My entire European trip, she was so helpful and it felt I was staying with friends or someone I know. This is more than a 10/10 experience.

The breakfast area is small and we ate in our room instead.
This is a brand new hotel which offers excellent accommodation. It is very centrally located with easy walking to all local attractions. The hotel is spotless and our room was spacious with a balcony and kitchenette. The hotel staff were so helpful and friendly. We will definitely stay here again.

That I couldn't stay longer hahha
This hotel is new, so when we booked, there were very few reviews. It felt like a risk to book, but it truly paid off. The hotel is brand new and GORGEOUS, the staff is trained and attentive, the complimentary breakfast was delicious and homemade, the rooms were comfortable and very equipped for everything — even making fresh squeezed orange juice. The best stay we had on our entire trip, no doubt.

It perhaps should be made clear that the lift did not serve all rooms.
The rooms were very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. The location was very good. All the staff were very friendly.

There was no elevator to reach the room. We needed to lug our luggage up stairs to the second floor.
The breakfast was buffet style and was adequate for a fresh start.

so like many urban hotel rooms they are on the small side
A unique hotel combining small urban buildings into a wonderful hotel. Great breakfast in the courtyard near lots of urban experience without the noise. cheap eats just steps away and Porto river front just down the hill.

Nothing. Small things like no fan in bathroom, our shower door leaked although door was closed.
Thoughtful design, interesting decor, great breakfasts, very helpful staff, great location. No complaints!

The suite is excellent! Everything you could possibly need was provided. The bathroom shower was amazing! Bed was so comfortable with beautiful linens. Breakfast was so much more than we expected. The staff are extremely helpful and Alex, the hotel manager, went over and beyond. I cannot say enough good things about this boutique hotel other than you should definitely book to stay here!!

We loved our stay here. I highly recommend this hotel. The room, staff, and breakfast were amazing. The rooms are new and have everything you need. The bed was really comfortable. The location is perfect- it is very centrally located and walking distance to all the attractions. Nuno was so welcoming and gave us great recommendations for food and things to see and helped us find parking. The staff is very responsive and offered to book fado show and dinner reservations. The hotel manager was so lovely and accommodating. The breakfast was filling with many healthy and fresh options.

Nothing at all to dislike.
Everything was fresh and new. Stylish, spacious room with quality furnishings. Bed was very comfortable. Housekeeping excellent. The soundproofing in our street facing room was excellent, though it was a quiet street anyway. Location very handy for city centre exploring. The staff were professional, friendly, helpful. This is a small hotel, very well managed and designed.

Amazing central location, quick walk to all destinations. Very new and stylish hotel - the two floor studio apartment we stayed in was stunning! Great amenities, including an orange juicer and coffee machine! Loved the balcony too. Staff were really helpful and gave lots of recommendations.

The Alma hotel is Wahoo!! The best hotel in Portugal!! Perfect location to visit Porto by walk. The studio is so beautiful, confortable and cosy. We feel like at home. The hotel is even more beautiful than in the pictures. Every detail is perfect and the staff is amazing. Especially Diogo! :-)
