Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PortugalNo parking, the hotel needs to be remodeled/renewed, very hard to get shower water at a normal temperature, usually simply cold. Breakfast was quite "poor" with little variety. Only one person taking care of a full breakfast room, not manageable.

UkraineThe disadvantage of the location is that it is on the top of the hill, where not every taxi goes. I had to wait sometime until a taxi comes. The buses are also rare. The room was separated from another one by the door. Therefore, it was possible to hear people laughing and talking loudly in the neighbouring room. There is no laundry room where one can iron his/her closes. (Of course, it is not promised to be there. But sometimes people can expect it.)
Very friendly staff, good hotel breakfast, clean room. The advantage of the location is a great view, Bom Jesus is nearby.

SpainThe rooms are in need of refurbishment, feels like it's from the 70's/80's. Almost no power outlets, there's no mini fridge, bed is very uncomfortable, so as the pillows.
Location is great, inside the Sanctuary. Room was clean and quiet.

That it is located in BonJesus, which gave me access to wonderful places. But also it is far from the city, if I didn’t had a car, I would’ve find it really hard to go to the city

PortugalThe hotel is very old and not very clean. Unfortunately, our room was not very pleasant - dirty walls and carpets, uncomfortable beds, drafts from the window, stains on carpet and furniture. We got breakfast in the hotel, it was very simple with very limited options. I would recommend to avoid it and get nicer meal somewhere outside.
Hotel is situated in a really nice place, you can walk straight to the Bom Jesus do Monte. Beautiful view from the room. Unfotunately, that is all I liked there.

PortugalAccess to the parking (inside a protected area) is done through a gate where you need to pay 1€. As I did have no coins to pay, pressed the button to talk to receptionist and nobody answered. Waited for 15 minutes to enter and had to call the reception number and talk to the clerk 4 times!!! This is an unacceptable inconvenience that ruins an otherwise good experience

CanadaBraga's city center is not close and parking there is complicated. However, Bom Jesus is the crown jewel of the city. To get to the hotels by car, there are 1-euro tolls to be paid in cash, though when you get a receipt, the hotels refund you that amount every time you use them.
To start, Hotel do Lago is closed during the time we booked, we were not supposed to get a room there. Unaware to us, the 4 hotels in the area are from the same company, so we were transferred to Hotel do Parque, which is right next to Bom Jesus. The staff was very kind and helpful in solving the wrong booking issue and find our room, even more, as an apology, they gave gave us a nice bottle of wine. They were very helpful with information and tips, including providing free toothbrushes/toothpaste. The room we got was superb, with a nice view of Bom Jesus and excellent facilities. The breakfast is the best, buffet style with hot items and plenty of nice things to eat/drink

Francecould be way better with small improvements such as : pillows were not on the bed but in the cupboard. it was a bit odd the place needs to be refreshed. new carpet, paint the walls etc… it looks pretty old school but with minor investment it would really improve dogs barking all night next door - bring earplugs or put something on YouTube to help you fall asleep
location is beautiful, staff is very nice, breakfast was good and it was very affordable price
