Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe mattresses were very hard and uncomfortable was my only complaint. Everything else was fantastic. We had 2 room But would have preferred a family room with our 2 kids. Not sure if they have any or they were just not available on our dates.
Excellent location, lovely decor and views.

IrelandThe only thing that we realized was that the Hotel itself is old. There were repairs/renovations being done that did not affect our stay whatsoever. There is still a lot to be done, but the team will get there.
To be honest, all services that we used turned out to be great. The sea view was simple amazing and right what we needed.

United KingdomOur bedroom was near the hotel exit to the beach and we were disturbed each night at about 3am by noisy groups returning from the bars and beach. The indoor pool did not open until 10am, swim caps were required and the sauna was not functioning. We had to pay to use the safe in our room.
Proximity to beach and sea., to shops and restaurants. Outdoor pool. Views from bedroom and from public areas. Nicely furnished and comfortable public lounge area.

United StatesThe Turkish bath and sauna were not going, so we had to ask for someone to come to get them functioning. While hotel staff person came quickly, it took too long for both to get up to temperature. Because we didn’t have the time to wait we didn’t use them.
Hotel do Mar is a charming older property that architecturally reflects the decade of the 60s during which it was built. The competent and lovely reception staff walked us to our room and helped us understand where everything was. The layout of the elevators is a bit confusing, but the gorgeous views everywhere make up for the inconvenience you may experience navigating around the interior of the hotel. The indoor pool was clean and spacious (We did not use the outdoor pool ). The amenities offered in the room were as described and expected. We found the beds comfortable, and everything in the bathroom worked well. The light outside on our little balcony didn’t work properly, but The hotel staff person came immediately to fix it. The hotel sits above the town in a fantastic location for walking along the beach and enjoying shopping, restaurants, bars, etc. in the town below. We chose not to go to the hotel and the restaurant for dinner or the bar. Staff were helpful and gave us great recommendations for where to eat and things to see, Including neighborhoods to check out (we were looking for a house to potentially buy). The included breakfast was delicious with much to choose from And enough food to take us through the day till almost dinner time. I chose the hotel because they have a good size parking lot, which is unusual in this town where there is limited parking that you have to pay for.

PortugalIt is getting a bit outdated, the bathroom in the bedroom is old, the windows were old, the gym could use new equipment and some additional tools. Overall, it shows the hotel has not been renovated in a while.
The location is amazing, the staff is really nice and concerned about your wellbeing. Meals were tasty and diverse

NetherlandsThe decor is fun, in a mid century modern way, but the facilities definitely show their age. However, for the price, we can overlook some of the more time-worn aspects.
The location is great — right on the beach. All rooms have sea views and balconies. The breakfast offered a lot of options. The indoor pool was helpful on a colder, windier day. A solid option in Sesimbra!

LuxembourgThe hotel is dated and requires a major renovation. The biggest complaint is the hardness of beds.
Excellent prime location. Falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the ocean is an unforgettable experience. Private hotel parking nearby. The staff were amazing, especially at the reception and the restaurant. The views from the balcony and also from the public areas are breathtaking. The indoor swimming pool is good size with warm water. It was not crowded during our stay.

CanadaThe door back to the building is opened by contacting staff through intercom. Eight of us waited for too long to get back in - room keys do not work. This needs to be improved. Rooms and building are quite dated and have a bit of a moldy smell. Toilet sounded like a jet taking off. 4 pm to get into the room is quite late and resulted in a big line up and this was the off season. Mandatory bathing caps in the pool was weird. Very complicated design and difficult to find your way around especially as some of the signs are partially obscured.
Great location with easy access to the waterfront and good restaurants. Excellent breakfast - possibly the best of our 6 weeks of travel. Many choices including a few hot items. Enough good choices if you would like a healthy breakfast.

CanadaThe layout is kind of weird, easy to get lost. The bed was rock hard. The tub is weirdly narrow, not great if you have mobility issues or need more space. There is no coffee or tea available in the room and you are not allowed to take one from breakfast. No kettle either. You maybe be able to pay extra or a coffee at room service though. If you want to enjoy a sunrise coffee on your balcony, you'll have to bring your own kettle and supplies!
Very good location, all rooms have ocean view and a balcony. Breakfast was pretty good, they also changed it up each day. Room is spacious. Enjoyed listening to the waves everyday. The staff at the desk and breakfast were great.
