Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesMy room was on the top floor and there is no elevator. Lisbon is a lot of walking hills so to come back to rest and have to climb 5 flights of stairs was not the best.
The location is great, close to everything you need and very walkable to Rossio train station and Restauradores metro. There seems to be a homeless camp just around the corner but they don't bother anyone. You will hear street singers and live music at night from nearby bars, but closing the window muffles this.

MaltaThe room being on The 3 rd floor ( although I had requested it) but there was no elevator so I had 64 steps to climb each time. Of course I knew about it but for someone who cannot do all those stairs it could be a bit challenging. The walls are very thin and I could hear the residents in the next room flush the toilet and have showers ( very long ones early in the morning too which was annoying) .
The location was absolutely perfect , so close to Rossio station , really could not be more central. The room was fine , with a small balcony ,I opted for a private bathroom although I was traveling alone which was really nice to have. The two gentlemen I met at reception were always extremely helpful and friendly.

FranceConsidering my needs, I guess the place did the job. I will assume the two errors on the price of stay are genuine errors and not scam attempts (I paid in cash), so all in all, it was okay. Also, on google maps, they say it's a 3-stars hotel. It's really not.
Location is the main strength of the place, because it's really central. Room is small which was enough for my needs, but it could become detrimental the longer you plan to stay there. Bathroom was shared with another room, but it was ok. The shower lacked water pressure but apart from that, the bathroom was okay. Wifi was good. No elevator. Staff was very polite but they made 2 mistakes when I initially arrived, they first told me my room was 222euros (instead of 122) and then 124.

NetherlandsLots of noise all night long. The room smells like a dog lives there, the bathroom is moldy, with live wires in sight. The water taps drop off, there are no towels, no soap. The room can’t be locked from the inside. The closet has no doors, the window shade is a piece of cloth, a wire and some clothes pegs.

LebanonThe room lacked an air conditioner, and it was very hot, it was on the 5th floor with no elevator so we had to go up and down the stairs. Couldn't open the balcony door as it leads to a common area where everyone passes to go to the floor.
The location was perfect, very central, with all the nearby attractions within walking distance and nearby metro and bus stations. Clean bathroom within the room, and a very clean room. Good wifi service.

AustraliaThe place has no lifts, so this was an issue when we were carrying 2 X 20kg luggages up and down 3 levels. The staff was nice and offered to carry it up to our rooms for us though we did feel bad about it. On the day we left, we carried it down ourselves but it was tough. It also meant we had to walk up and down everyday after a long day out. The room was a bit stuffy and they only had a fan, luckily the weather wasn't too hot yet. The beds were pretty uncomfortable as there was a clear dip in the bed and I had some back pain after a night's stay and we were there for 4 nights.
The location was very convenient and only a short walk to 2 major train stations and next to a busy shopping district. The room has access to a balcony area where you can hang any (handwashed) clothes.
