How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The automatic light in the bathroom which goes off after a minute is not very practical. The hostel is a long way from the centre, but that's no secret and it's easy to get there on foot or by public transport.
The staff are very welcoming and ready to answer any questions you may have! The bed area is comfortable, closed with a curtain, and has storage space, a plug and an individual light. The kitchen is very well equipped. The rest and dining room is welcoming and has a TV and console. The communal areas are cleaned every day, so it's very clean. There's an outdoor area perfect for sunbathing. There's a shopping centre right next door, and a LIDL further down the boulevard for even cheaper shopping. I would highly recommend this hostel for those seeking peace and quiet.

I had a bottom bunk, which was just a mattress on the floor, and I couldn’t sit up fully. The lockers were out in the hallway, which was quite annoying
Walking distance to the city center, but also close to many bus lines. Very well equipped kitchen, and nice bathroom facilities

A beautiful and comfortable place to stay. Cozy terrace and the space downstairs, good facilities in kitchen. Two metro stations in about fifteen minutes walking from the hostel. The stuff and the guests are very friendly and helpful. Nice place to stay for travellers and for longer time stays.

This is a new hostel and Clevia and her husband were working hard to resolve any issues I brought to their attention.
Hostel Cia was well located near Metro stop Combatentes which connects directly with Sao Bento in the heart of the Centro tourist district. It is near several supermarkets and restaurants in a quiet and safe Antas neighborhood near Estadio Dragao and the new Alameda Shopping Mall. The kitchen is large with lots of refrigerator space and is fully equipped since the hostel was a former restaurant. There is a coworking space for digital nomads with fast internet speeds. There are plenty of bathrooms and showers. Best of all is the wondeful owner/manager Clevia who works hard to keep the hostel clean and a pleasant place to stay.

This is not a comfortable place, especially not for ladies. The showers for ladies has really no place to put your stuff and once out of the shower if anyone opens the door you are in full view. Ironically the ladies bathroom which is at another end of the building has more room. The dorm was too crowded and the lower bunk was a mattress on the floor !! But I guess this is what you get for the low price.
The staff were doing their best. I appreciated that they were working hard to keep the place going !

Beds were uncomfortable, crammed and stuffy room with barely any space to store luggage, room on bottom floor often filled with smoke from smokers area right outside the door, long term stayers were loud at night time making it hard to sleep, fresh bedding / linen is needed. Met some nice people here but the atmosphere isn’t very social. Roof space to hang washing is unsafe and needs work.
WIFI worked well in common spaces which was great for remote working, close to a shopping centre and train station. Hostel was cleaned regularly. About 30-40 minutes walk to the city centre, which is doable, but something to keep in mind if you want to stay closer to the main sites / restaurants of Porto. A couple of the staff were friendly and helpful.

My bunk bed was a bit lower than expected, and it was actually touching the ground. However it had a comfortable mattress and clean sheets.
I've liked that the hostel was daily cleaned.

I was in a room and the bed had access to a window that could be seen from outside and lot of times people were sitting outside and could see so no privacy at all. And also sometimes you could hear people talking outside when you were trying to sleep
