Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PortugalI liked the property overall, although it does not have the quality of a 5 star hotel. The rooms are ok, but have little issues that I was not expecting in a 5 star hotel: the shower pressure is really high on the hand shower but really low on the ceiling shower, we had a leaky sink, no conditioner was made available in the room, we only had two loo rolls available (and because we were in for a day and didn’t want housekeeping we were short of it). The breakfast has really good food but not a lot of variety, which I found odd for a five star hotel. The coffe was super watery, and there were no milk alternatives that I saw. The restaurant had som really great food but overpriced for what it was. There’s also no accessibility from the car park to the hotel which is a big issue in my opinion. The outside swimming pool was right next to the construction site of some renovations happening and we were told we could use it but it might be dirty due to construction which was a bit odd. There was also an event that was not announced (that I noticed) and was on until midnight without warning, and since our room was somewhat close to it we could hear everything. Some notice would have been nice. I don’t mean to sound harsh as we really did enjoy our stay, just wanted to notice some improvement points that would make me consider it 5 star hotel.
The staff was really nice and always available to help, gave us great suggestions of things to do. The location is beautiful, although there’s little to do around the property (restaurants, coffee shops, etc) so you must have a car to go to the nearest town to have your meals. The room’s decor was really nice. The carrot and chocolate cake for breakfast was really good.

NetherlandsRoom inventory not checked well. We had two rooms (because of an upgrade) and in both rooms items were missing. In one room no bottle of water and a second glass. In the other room no bathrobes and only one teacup and coffeecup for the Nespresso machine. In both rooms half of the minibar inventory was missing. The menu in the restaurant is printed on a shabby leaflet: not matching a five star hotel.
Room with valley view and balcony. We had booked a room without and then you have a view at an industrial zone. We upgraded the room for the view and the balcony and that was worthwile. The food in the restaurant is very good. Japanese food is superb. Value for money in this hotel is high.

PortugalI made a reservation here only because of an electric car charger in the hotel. The charger did not work and I had to go at night to Vila Real to charge my car.

RussiaEverything was goo, very friendly staff, the toilet in the room is not very privasy. The breakfasts were wonderful, the view of the mountains from the room was excellent, but I don’t think it’s good on the other side. The spa is small, but there are 2 saunas. There is tea time at 17.00, nice, room cleaning is good, I recommend the hotel!

PortugalNot good value for money, not for a 5 stars hotel, needed to pay extra for the spa facilities (swimming pool and gym), which is inadequate. Stayed in 4 stars hotels with spa facilities included.

PortugalThey needed to fix their generators. When the lights went down, the generators also went down, which made their task harder, especially for breakfast.
The staff was amazing, lovely amenities and the breakfast was simply great. Also, there is a courtesy tea and cookies in the afternoon, that was a lovely touch. The restaurant at the Hotel is also a nice option if you opt to dine in. The Location is a quick drive away from both Régua and Lamego. This was our second time here, this time with our daughter, and it sure won't be the last.

United KingdomThere was definitely a lack of staff and at times I'd wait a long time in reception for anyone. When we did meet the staff, they were all very kind but there just needed to be more of them!
A wonderful hotel with incredibly comfortable and well laid out room, with a spectacular view. The breakfast was also fantastic each morning. A real treat to stay there.

SpainWe felt on numerous occasions that the hotel was understaffed. For example no staff at the pool for the drinks or slow attendance at the breakfast. Overall a 4-star hotel rather than 5 star hotel for us.
Beautiful location in the wineyards. Nice pools and nice room although our view was not ideal.

United KingdomRestaurant evening meal very disappointing. The staff were perfect but the food itself was very poor for the price point. Definitely seems more like a 4* than a 5* hotel based on our experience with 5* hotels around the world. Poor quality amenities in room (no hair conditioner, body lotion and hand soap dispensers were empty), no coat hangers, no table on balcony, no kettle or hot drinks in room. Did not feel like a luxury hotel but was still very enjoyable.
Absolutely stunning location and view - definitely worth paying extra for a vineyard view as one side of the hotel faces another building so only one side faces out over the Valley. Beautiful room and terrace, great bar, and very friendly staff. Great breakfast.

FinlandSo little privacy in toilet in the room, only glass door with gaps around it (=no soundproofing) ;) There was no coffeemaker in the room, only minibar. There was no table in the balcony. You need to wear a swimming cap at the indoor swimming pool. (Remember to bring slippers also!) Service at the dinner was a bit slow. We tried to go to the hotel bar after having dinner at the hotel restaurant, there was no staff present so we asked someone to come from the reception, but after approx. 15min wait after we left -unserved. Perhaps they were short of staff that night.
Easy and free parking. Staff is friendly, great customer service. Good breakfast, lots of variety. Food at the restaurant was tasty, room service was quick. Bed was really good, sheets were soft and the bed was really wide. Wifi worked nicely. 5PM tea and cake is a nice complimentary service from the hotel. Overall a nice 3 night stay.

PortugalNot enough staff, it was hard to find someone when needed. We asked for a cocktail but we were told that it was the day off of the bartender (so no mojito). They had no vegan options at the restaurant. We were offered the option of risotto without cheese, which isn't acceptable. We ended up eating a combination of tasty side dishes, but that feels very short on what a 5* should have available at the restaurant.
We loved the room and the view. The pool was nice (even though it looked bigger in the pictures). Fresh water free of charge available next to the pool was really nice! The staff is very friendly, especially Mr. Luis from the restaurant.

PortugalThe Restaurant was really disapointing; In fact, a good example on how the experience is always the sum of all its parts; restaurant staff was mechanic not attentive and specially the restaurant staff manager was the most unprofessional. The food was terrible! a clear case were the focus is to project an image of innovation but lack in quality, taste, presentation and context; the hotel is part of UNESCO cultural & natural patrimony, with one of the most richest Portuguese gastronomy (by itself very rich already) the menu didn't reflect nothing of local cuisine, ingredients, recipes, either in a traditional manner or in an upscaled way. SKIP the restaurant if you want to enjoy your stay. Decor of the hotel: Dr. Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde! It was clearly decorated by a professional, with very good taste and amazing details BUT for sure a third person decided to give his/hers own personal touch and in some spots the hotel has an pristine decoration with the most tacky & kitsch details (unintentionally)
Great location with stunning views over a vineyard in the heart of Santa Marta de Penaguião village; Reception staff really helpful & willing to make the best of clients stay; The room is a surprise with nice details linking the thematic of wine & Douro region in an original manner; very comfortable bed and excellent bathroom/shower area; nice amenities (eg.: free of charge EV charging station) Excellent common areas of the hotel (eg.: bar, swimming pool; spa; resting areas)
