The hostel is a bit outside with respect to Urzelina, so it's better to have a car to go there, but you easily access it with a taxi.

We have a very nice room with a beautiful terrace to chill at night. The room was well equipped. The staff was amazing, we had advice to explore the island and to move around.

Amazing place. Location 5 minutes from the airport by car, from the ferry in Velas about 15'. Very comfortable, clean and large room with private bathroom, large balcony with seating area, kitchen for the hostel well equipped and spacious. The owner is lovely and kind. In the hill by the main road above the town of Urzalina where there is a pool, shop, bar and several excellent restaurants, very nice place. Buses don't run here, car needed. Great view of Pico. It was a very nice stay in Sao J which is very hilly.

Marficas is the best place to stay in São Jorge. The location in Urzelina is excellent. The rooms are spacious and with modern furnishings. The cleanliness is excellent, the kitchen is perfect and has way more appliances and facilities than you'd expect. Tania who owns it is an absolute gem of a woman. Helpful, friendly, kind and knowledgeable.

Stay here to explore the magic that is São Jorge. Marficas Hostel is a true gem. Tania is the most welcoming and amazing host and really wants all her guests to enjoy and appreciate the beauty of the island. She truly goes above and beyond for helping assist her guests with restaurants, taxis, treks, and more. The hostel is in a great location and I liked the village of Urzelina. The kitchen is fantastic, rooms are well laid out, and the balcony a bonus. Everything here is incredibly clean. Thank you so much Tania for creating this space to enjoy São Jorge. I hope to return in the future 💚

Tânia is a friendly host and happy to have a chat! Everything was very clean and comfortable. There's a big, well stocked kitchen area with two stoves. Each room had a balcony with chairs and a table that's great to watch the sunset from, and a great view of Pico too! The bathrooms are have lots of space. Dorm beds were comfy and rooms had direct access to the carpark. When I stayed there weren't many other travellers (because of shoulder season) so it was quiet, but did make a very relaxed experience.

Beware that there isn't a breakfast place nearby, we had to go all the way to Velas on the first day and that didn't go well. The best is to buy stuff for breakfast and make it yourself at the hostel. You can sit outside and enjoy the view with it too.

The view of the hostel is superb, we could see Pico right there and it's the first thing we saw every morning. Our room was in the back which had no direct view but we just had to walk a bit on our private door. The facility was very clean, and the kitchen was amazingly useful and well equipped. They even supply coffee or tea. There are two big fridges that we stored some food and water. A big plus, they sent us a map of the island with places to visit, through whatsapp, which was very helpful and we love the recommendation.

We basically loved everything, it was the perfect hostel. Everything was clean the kitchen had modern equipment and everywhere was air condition. Also the manger, Tatjana, was really kind- you really got the feeling that she cared and that she wanted to get you the best holidays. Would love to come back one day!
