Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaI will be picky here, for the hotel's information! Breakfast was good but inconsistent. They ran out of natural flavoured yogurt in the last three of the five days of my stay. No strong coffee Portuguese style. No vegetables! Granola wasso-so. No milk that I could see. Prosciutto was dry, and then they ran out on the last 2 days of my stay. There seemed to be an issue keeping things in supply! Plates were not taken away until you left the restaurant. Personal order taken for eggs on days that were less "busy", and then hot plates put out on "busier" days. Whole fruit was old, and only about 2 - 3 fruits (literally)! These same fruits made their appearance over and over on my 5 days! Overall, it seemed that the number of guests could not maintain a sufficient level of supplies for the restaurant!
The building was wonderful and modern, and restored and renovated with its character intact. Different views from many angles, close enough to town, yet removed for a pastoral stay. Room had all the amenities, but they did not replace the coffee pouches except once during my 5 days. Pasteis de Nata was the best I had on the islands. Bottled fizzy water was a nice touch. Good fresh cut fruit and figs. I appreciated that I could take my breakfast to my room without any fuss. Homemade cookies and celebratory cupcakes on April 25 were a very nice touch!

CanadaThe bar doesn't have many drink options, and no food options. I think this could be improved in the future, because the setting of the bar is very comfortable and classy - it makes you want to spend time there.
This is an amazing property. It's set in an old palace that has been fully renovated, but the original charm and history were perfectly kept. It has an amazing view of the sea and the 2 main mountains of Angra do Heroismo, which you can hike up to for amazing views. The hotel is just a 15-min walk from Rua da Se, the main street with restaurants, bars and shopping. There is plenty of parking available if you have a rental car (which is the best way to explore the island). The beds are comfortable, the whole facility is very clean, breakfast is delicious. Everything looks brand new and charming at the same time. But the best part was the kindness of the people who work there, they all made us feel very welcome.

IsraelLoved everything
It’s and amazing place! Looks exactly like the pictures. It’s a new place, it’s clean, beautiful, well maintained. All the staff without exception were so friendly and nice to us. Breakfast was great as well. It’s about 20 minutes walk from a main area of restaurants and bars (walkable at night), great view over mount brazil and the ocean. We loved seeing the sunset from the pool while reading a book. The place also has a big private parking lot for free. We didn’t wanted to leave

BelgiumLack of personnel. Nobody to take the luggage ( though the receptionist helped). The way between the reception and the elevator is tricky. The cobblestones are not inviting and a wooden platter for instance would be nice. To have to go through the bar to have access to the rooms. Nobody in the bar to get us drinks.
The property itself is a beautiful place. Very nicely renovated.

United StatesI did love my room--I thought it would be slightly bigger, but there is little you can do about that. Also, having been spoiled with fresh water and a baked treat my first day, it would have been nice to come home to that refreshed again my second day-- a small detail! I admit I was tired and was looking down, but walked into the plate glass lobby door--I don't know from a safety standpoint if you could take a decorative logo for the hotel that would not interrupt the ambiance and elegance of the lobby and mark them better, but this could be a true safety hazard.....
Breakfast was wonderful--I especially appreciated being able to have access to large bottles of water. The hotel is gorgeous, the staff wonderful, and the food marvelous--thank your so very much!!! Thank you also for keeping the chapel open and beautifully kept, and the pool open at night--I enjoyed being able to swim after dark in the quiet!

PortugalBecause it’s very humid on the island, the room smelled really musty and the sheets were damp. One thing I wasn’t aware of was that the hotel is owned by the Catholic Church, so there are pictures of the pope everywhere and there’s a chapel inside.
The space is beautiful and the staff is absolutely wonderful. There wasn’t one single person working there that didn’t make us feel special 💛

Quiet location with delicious breakfast, and comfortable beds. Very helpful and friendly staff. Beautiful refurbishment of a monastery made for interesting architecture. Only a 5-10 minute walk to the main part of Angra. We look forward to coming back.

BelgiumNothing, perhaps a suggestion for breakfast; it would be nice if there was a possibility to sit outside, weather permitting. The area in which it is organised in has a bit of a business look with same daily repeated music playing in background , not cozy enough.

United StatesMarvelously reengineered as a super modern hotel in an ancient monetary with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, Monte Brazil, the old Spanish fort and the rooftops of much of Angra do Heroismo. It’s sparkling clean and had all the modern amenities you would expect. Pope John and Pope Francis stayed there, John when it was still a monastery and Francis a few weeks before the hotel opened to the public. We are new migrants from the US and were there for three weeks waiting for our house to be ready. The hotel is an amazing physical structure but it’s the staff that make the place extra special. We both did a lot of travel during our careers and as retirees. We’ve stayed in hundreds of hotels on three continents and have never met a friendlier and more professional group. They were constantly surprising us with unexpected acts of kindness and attention. You can pay people to be polite but friendly comes from the heart and these folks are full of Azorian heart. I can’t leave this post without mentioning the breakfast buffet with hot entrees, fresh fruit and many, many delicious homemade breads, cakes and other treats thanks to Miss Joana, the pastry chef. Best wishes to all that follow.

GermanyI was missing a restaurant, wellness or any other thing that would make the stay in the hotel itself more interesting. The pool is very small, so you can’t really swim in it. But the hotel has enough space to build some more buildings, I hope they do so.
The hotel is very well built, very new, clean, has some open spaces and some nice things to discover.
