Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe sea veiw room from the 6th floor was way better than the suite on the 11th floor. I was very surprised by this. I was expecting so much more from the room.
Sea Veiw from the 6th floor was amazing. The buffet food was always delicious and lots of varieties to choose from. Outside pool and bar was so much fun and great options for drinks. Special mention to Sandra Menezes who made my mum's & my stay extra special & memorable. Will definitely return.

United KingdomFood: quality was overall good, but quite repetitive. Lunch and dinner at the Buffet was same-same quite often, in terms of soup, salad, fruit and dessert. Desserts were made to look good, though tasted extremely bland. Protein options were good. Restaurants: it’s advertised as having 4 restaurants. However, only two restaurants are open full-time; the Buffet, for lunch and dinner each day, and the Italian Pizzeria. The Pizzeria was good, though service was slow and we felt like ‘cattle’, with the goal to get us in, fed and out as soon as possible. The main issue overall was that we could only make one restaurant booking for our week-long stay. We were initially told that this was because we were only staying 6 nights, and required a 7th night to make a second booking. Then, we were told that they were all booked out. Finally, we were told that the other two restaurants are only open 1 and 2 days per week, hence the lack of bookings. Very frustrating. Bar: overall very good, with a good mix of drink options. Staff: fine, but not as accommodating as could be expected in a five-star advertised hotel. Location: perfect. Room: very good. Plastic-Free Policy: this is to be commended. However, guests were given 1 x one-litre glass bottle for the duration of their stay, which they were required to refill themselves, at one of the bars, which could involve a multi-story walk, along tiles, for up to 100 metres, increasing the likelihood of falling and causing an accident. A better solution would be to offer water fountains at closer locations to rooms.
It was overall good - the equivalent of a 3-star hotel, in terms of room, facilities and food, that offered an All-Inclusive package.

CanadaI was pickpocketed on my 3rd day and my passports, cash and cards were stolen. I was alone with my young son and am a single mother. Staff did absolutely nothing to help apart from make a few calls when I asked for help although this was too much trouble for them and one rude staff member kept rolling her eyes each time I went to reception for help. I kept getting told that their phones are unable to press option 1, 2 etc when prompted although 2 other staff members knew how to do this. The rest just said our phones don't allow this and made no attempt to find out how to do it. Staff extremely rude and unhelpful and get annoyed when you ask for help or assistance. In some cases, pretend they don't understand English to avoid helping you. I had to apply for emergency passport to come back to UK. Staff did absolutely nothing to help and had the cheek to keep saying "just relax and enjoy". How the hell are you supposed to relax and enjoy when you have just been robbed in a foreign country with no support, no money, nothing. I started my period early due to the stress and asked reception if they could ask the females if anyone had any sanitary products I could have. I was told to walk to the pharmacy 10 minutes down the road to buy some. With what? I've just been mugged of all my money. Rooms filthy, water leaking from toilets and baths. Rooms never cleaned, bed sheets never been washed and stink. The only thing they do is change the towels and even that is every other day. Loo rolls not replenished, you have to ask! Breakfast was the only ok thing. Lunch and dinner choices very limited and be careful as the fish and meat are not always cooked properly and still raw. Mini bar in room - you only get 2 pineapple juices in baby size cartons and get told it is not stocked as you can go to the pool bar to get drinks.
Swimming pool was clean and there were always sunbeds free

CanadaEvening entertainment boring and repetitive Not much food choices, same food every day and not fresh. Juices were concentrated rubbish They say this is all-inclusive but when you ask for a drink they say you have to pay extra to get upgraded to premium so you can get premium drinks! Reception staff need to learn customer service skills and how to be helpful The best way to rate a hotel is when things go wrong as you can see how the staff will help. In this hotel, when things go wrong or you need help, they do not help. This IS NOT A 5 STAR AND NOWHERE NEAR A 5 STAR. It looks like a 3 star but given the service you receive, is not even worth 1 star. Go to the Royal Savoy if you want value for money and a decent service.
Pool staff and lunch/dinner staff were nice. Clean swimming pool Nice view of the ocean Close to Funchal Town

PortugalFor a 5-star hotel, it didn't make sense the overall state and offering from the premises. We travelled with 2 kids, one of them on a stroller, and we had plenty of staircases and obstacles that we couldn't pass without picking the stroller up. Not once but twice, we asked for a cab to pick us from the airport and after to drive us on the departure day, in both times the staff forgot to carry out the taxi order. The beach is not accessible to strollers or wheelchair. Have to climb multiple stairs. The beach is made from cobblestones. The staff, food and room quality are frankly disappointing.
The ocean view was amazing.

FranceThe food was very average. Not much choice. Breakfast is the same everyday. We ended up eating in local restaurants where the food was great. Some of the staff are great, friendly and helpful. But most are not. The activities in the hotel are mundane, there is not much going on. Evening entertainment was poor. On the night we arrived, there was a lady singing, she was excellent. Went downhill from there. I did enjoy the traditional Madeiran music one of the evenings, that was great. It's a nice hotel but there is a lot of room for improvement. Room turn down can be as late as 5pm..that's very late.
The views from the hotel are beautiful. Location is great. Rooms are a good size.

United KingdomWe needed to request a room change because of a plumbing fault. It took more than 3 hours to sort out, which was disappointing. We also asked for bathrobes. It took about eight hours to deliver them.
The property is well placed and I liked the way it stood out from afar. It looked like a Barbie’s house, which we loved. It also has the lift to beach, which was amazing. We loved the fact that we could try traditional Portuguese food. Our server at the main restaurant was absolutely amazing and it was great to see how much she enjoyed working there and how well she served and accommodated the guests.

PortugalThe hotel feels very old and there is a constant bad smell of mold in the hallway and in the rooms. I got 2 small beds instead of a big one and was told it could not be changed without adding an extra fee. There was no proper place to work in the hotel, the wifi was poor in many areas, and in the room, there was no appropriate desk/table, just old furniture. The shower was also not pleasant or nice to use. Overall survivable but not what I would expect for the price I paid.
The staff was nice, and the food was OK.

GermanyWhen we arrived at the hotel, we had to wait in line for the check-in for 1 hour! Not because there where too much people, but the reception was only open with 2 people working (3 others were standing around and doing nothing). Every check-in took them 15-20 minutes. After check-in, we went to our room and where shocked. The room was a completely different one than the promoted pictures on the website we saw while booking. We felt like we were staying in a basement room. It smelled really musty and old. The carped was so dirty and old. In all of the corners were spiderwebs. The bathroom was the worst. It was so old and dirty, the towels were so old, hard and uncomfortable. Felt like they were using these towels for 20 years now. When you flushed the toilet, a high pitched noise sounds and only went away after few minutes. You could not flush during the night cause it was so loud! The showerhead was broken and parts were hanging off. The bed was honestly horrible. The bed was so saggy that you could see a huge hollow from people laying in bed. Also because the bed was clearly so old and used, you could feel every spring in the mattress. Sleeping comfortably was really not possible. The ‚good view/ocean view‘ which we booked was not there. When we looked out of the window, we were looking right at a huge parking garage. We were really excited for the all inclusive dinner. Well, the buffet looked as if a herd of wild boar had run through the restaurant. Food laying everywhere. The food itself did not look very appetizing which was very sad. Overall experience: we left after one night. We were really excited for the stay and where so sad with how it turned out. For reverence: we are in our twenties and not picky, but for that price for a 5 star hotel, we really expected something different. So disappointing! We stayed in hostels which were more clean and nice than this place!
The location was near to the center of Funchal, which was the ONLY positive thing about this stay.

PolandPublic Relations Manager. The young lady, nice dressed up, brown curly hair, with very unplesant attitude. We saw her taking to the girl in the restaurant, the girl starter to cry. I asked her what time the hotel bus goes to the city. She she answered me with a sour expression and contempt
The hotel is amazing. Beautiful interiors, live music, facilities. The most wonderful was the Staff, especially Rafa, Sam, Bruna, Kazim and restaurant guys and pool guys.
