Nothing to dislike.

Everything at the hotel was SUPERB, beautiful room on ground floor which was good for me as I walk with a stick, loved the swimming pools and the restaurant was excellent.

A number of small maintenance issues quickly corrected once reported, except for the temperature control in the shower. Reported to reception with no action taken early in the holiday, but when put in writing some days later it was dealt with quickly. Lesson here is to put issues in writing on the form hanging on the door rather than report to reception. Also concerned at check-out as it took some time to register the fact that the room had already been paid by us via Booking.com a month before we arrived - we were alarmed to receive initially a check-out invoice for the whole amount of our stay, which took some time to clarify on their system.

The breakfast was excellent. a junior suite well worth the extra.

The staff unfortunately seemed very unwelcoming. Especially the staff in the breakfast restaurant and in the bar. Guests seemed to be a nuisance. Shame because it was otherwise a nice hotel.

fantastic breakfasts. At last, a buffet breakfast which was hot. Well done Hotel Santa Maria. Great location in the old town close to all the restaurants and sea front.

The only criticism I would have is a lack of vegetarian/ vegan options on the menu.

The location is perfect. All staff are very friendly and helpful. The facilities are very good.

Breakfast could have been better. Fruit always looked a bit sad. poached eggs would have been nice & omelettes more than just once a week…. although there were plenty of fried eggs, scrambled & boiled eggs.

The view was beautiful from the balcony. We had a small kitchen, which is good If you want to cook yourself. The room is very clean. You only need to walk a few minuts to reach many good restaurants nearby.

Position of room overlooking dark and gloomy park but then I should have paid more ! Not having tea and milk replaced each day..annoying.

The hotel is in a superb location being on the seafront next to a flat promenade and the old town. It is beautifully equipped for a superb relaxing break. The choice at the buffet breakfast is outstanding and the dinners were good being served in a delightful area. I particularly enjoyed the views from my sea view room of the spectacular sunrises and sunsets plus all the cruise ships coming and going. Access to the town is easy and the cable car entrance is five minutes away so you can sometimes beat the queues. I am booking again!

This is the third time we have stayed in the hotel. We return because everything about it is excellent. The hotel is always spotless, the staff are welcoming every mealtime/day and the facilities are superb. We would not stay anywhere else in Funchal

The location was perfect, so close to the old town with all its restaurants and amenities but very little outside noise which could have disturbed you at night. Amazing views out to sea and along the coast. The hotel was clean and spacious. The breakfast buffet was fresh, well presented and well stocked . Staff were always cheerful and helpful .

Everything was excellent.

This was our third time staying in the hotel. We return because the staff are friendly and really helpful. Despite being quite a large hotel it's like a family run hotel. The whole place is maintained to the highest standard. The food at all meals is varied and delicious. The facilities are great and it's an ideal location for walking into the old town. Views are stunning.

The pool could have been a little deeper, 110 cm is a bit to shallow.

In general, everything were good. Breakfast, room, staff and location. We had 14 very pleasant days.
