Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

DenmarkThe bed was to the hard side and it takes some time to get hot water but these are totally over shadowed by the nice and spacy apartment, the balcony, the view and the surroundings.
It is a steep bus ride or walk up hill which was not a problem for us and you are rewarded with a magnificient view of Funchal. The garden and pool area are fantastic. Loved the balcony.

GermanySteep walk up and down the hill. Recommend taking a 5 min taxi ride up the hill for between 5-10 € depending on The time of the day. The dogs in the neighbourhood were barking early in the morning which kept us awake. But not the hotels fault. Nothing you can do about it.
Excellent view from Balcony over the city and ocean. Lovely pool. Well maintained.

United KingdomThe only small things I could say were: the beds were a little soft for my taste, although not so much that I couldn’t get a good night’s sleep, we had twin beds despite the room facilities saying double (we just pushed them together) and there seemed to be dogs barking all night, so we had to sleep with the windows closed (we were provided a fan which kept us cool). To be fair though, the dogs barking seems to be a Funchal-wide problem, and is hardly the fault of the property. Apart from the dogs, it is extremely quiet and peaceful during the day and night, so I’m not sure you could find a quieter place to stay.
The apartments are situated a little up the mountain above Funchal, so the views over the city and to the sea are wonderful. We walked down to the old town most days (all down hill) and it took about 15-20 minutes. I wouldn’t recommend for those less able to walk, but it is fine for most. The hill is steep, so we used taxis to go back up (5 euros). Definitely worth the money! The property itself has a beautiful large pool, set on the terrace which catches the sun all day (perfect for sun worshippers) and the apartments are set among beautiful gardens and flowers. It is quiet and peaceful and perfect to relax, but still close enough to Funchal to be able to explore the town and beyond. A short walk up the hill there is a bus stop that goes down to town one way, and up to the Botanical Gardens the other. We really enjoyed our time here, particularly the pool, the gardens and the balcony where we would often have lunch with a sea view. We would definitely recommend for a relaxed stay on Madeira. The staff are all friendly and the covid rules made us feel safe without being too onerous.

SloveniaThere was only one grocery store nearby but was closed everytime we needed it so we quickly learned it is better to do the shopping somewhere else on the way back.
We had family studio (studio with one small room for child) and it was perfect option for us. The view over Funchal was magnificent and we enjoyed our evenings on the balcony very much. Pool was big advantage (it was never crowded), the surrounding was beautiful and autentic with banana trees. Parking space always available. Would highly recomment this accomodation - especially if you like to avoid typical hotels and mass tourism.

Czech RepublicWe booked an option that was supposed to have a double bed but ended up in a room with twin beds which fortunately could be moved together - so eventually it was not a big deal. Also, the beds were really soft which I don't like but others have different preferences.
Very good location, very nice staff, pool, clean and pleasant rooms. The kitchen had the basic utensils we needed. I was really glad we chose this place.

HungaryWe had ants in the room, so we needed to keep every food and snack in the fridge. The bathroom was outdated.
The garden was great, and you could see the ocean from the garden. The room looked like in the pictures. The private parking was also a big advantage.

United KingdomThe kitchenette area was v small and so poorly lit that it was awkward to cook. We had not realized it would not really be feasible to walk in and out of Funchal - it’s only 1.4 km but the hill is incredibly steep. We had to catch buses all the time and the it took a while to get to grips with those, once waiting 90 mins for a bus on the timetable we had been given by the hotel, but it never arrived. We fared much better after we downloaded the app on our phones called Moovit, which was totally reliable. We would stay here again but would ask for the block near the pool which have much better kitchenettes.
It was lovely to be in a Madeira residential area rather than in the main hotel tourist area. The pool area was lovely. The standard of cleanliness was excellent, in the apartment and by the pool. Comfy big bed. Lovely views over Funchal.

United KingdomNo air conditioning which isn't unusual for Madeira but with weather becoming increasingly hotter, as it was during my stay, something owners might consider. 30°c + each day in an apartment facing the sun all day got stifling. On the plus side, I was provided with a fan once I explained to reception that I couldn't sleep due to the heat. Of course a fan doesn't really extract heat like air conditioning but did make it more bearable.
I didn't have breakfast. Located in residential area which is what I wanted but nowhere nearby to eat out except 2 small bakeries. Very steep hill to walk up and down into town. Only good for the fit and agile often with little pavements, as is usual in Madeira.

United KingdomBathroom fittings were a bit old, shower/bath setting got stuck and it wasn't fixed promptly. Property is located up a very steep hill (in common with most of Funchal) which was fine for me but might be a struggle for older travellers. Buses seemed regular enough though and its a cheap taxi ride into the centre.
Fantastic view over Funchal in the upscale district of Rochina, fairly close walking distance to the old town and Botanical Gardens. Decor is very old fashioned but apartments were big, clean and had a large patio area for outdoor dining and sunbathing

United KingdomOverall, we had a brilliant time. The only thing would be that there seemed to be quite a lot of ants coming into our apartment. Also, there was work with power tools being carried out on the roof of one of the buildings opposite our balcony, which began at 8AM so it was a bit too noisy for us to use our balcony for breakfast. This is beyond the control of the accommodation so we have not let it affect our views, it was a great place and we’d definitely stay again!
Gorgeous views, quiet and private, great swimming pool and excellent location. Staff were friendly and accommodating as well.
