Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SerbiaWell, this review is not so much about the services of the hotel, it is more about the comfort of the room. The rooms are clean and delightfully decorated, however, Unfortunately, by design, the toilets are not separated by a wall, but only by thin windows. Not only they are uncomfortable, but there is also no privacy. It was kind a fine for us, however could be a deal breaker for some other. This kind of open toilet concept is mostly in cheap hotels such as Ibis budget and in my opinion, it does not fit with the overall quality of the room and the hotel.
Firstly, the location cannot be better than this! A great location surrounded by restaurants, bars, and shops. The hotel makes you feel like you are in a good place. A lot of attention to small details makes your stay pleasant. You have complimentary coffee and tea machines in the room, a welcome pastry, and a very friendly and helpful staff...Everything was top-notch! Breakfast was vibrant and delicious. The fruit they had was very fresh and tasty! I would choose this hotel again if I would visit Tomar one more time.

The hotel was comfortable as was our room and bed. It has a great location but is quite difficult to access by car. The hotel has a deal with a secure covered car park 100m away so it’s best to park there first and walk to the hotel. Take a ticket on entry to the carpark and give it to the hotel reception to endure a discount. The breakfast was good and plentiful. All the staff we met were extremely helpful and friendly.

United StatesNothing. This location in Tomar is over the top great. You will not experience any surprises there.
The breakfast at Hotel Republica was fabulous, a breakfast fit for a king and queen, and by far the healthiest, and tastiest we have eaten in Portugal. Jose in the dining room is a professional’s professional and a true gentlemen. Tania and Bruno at the front desk could not have been more helpful. I would rate everyone who helped us at Hotel Republica truly an 11 on a 10 scale. 👍🏻👍🏻 Thumbs up from us.

IndiaThe Hotel and the room had a strong oppressive perfume pervading the Hotel. The rooms have heavy velvet curtains which have absorbed the perfume and no amount of keeping the window open could get rid of the sickly-sweet smell. One evening the lady at the reception treated us a bit strangely, stopping us from entering and asking us to identify ourselves, this was unprecedented. It was neither Tania, nor the cheerful Brazilian, who was on duty on our last night.
The Hotel is very well located, an easy walk from the train station, strolley bag in tow, the sights of Tomar are accessible on foot and there are loads of restaurants of every budget to choose from in the vicinity. The room and toilet was large. Tania at reception was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful. To walk to the Convento, I recommend the route through the Park Sete Rios, rather than the steep cobbled path, as it hurts your feet terribly.

United KingdomFabulous location in the heart of Tomar - public car park is super close (but try and travel with minimal luggage to carry to hotel) We had a wonderful stay here, we were kindly upgraded to a suite room and it was simply beautiful! Cannot fault this hotel and will definitely return here when we come back to this area.

PortugalThe small things count, breakfast, the hot food section of the breakfast was in a beautiful Bain Marie which was unfortunately not turned on and subsequently all hot food was very cold. During breakfast one of the staff decided to use a very strong smelling cleaning product in the dining room which was completely unnecessary.
Very well appointed and central to all attractions very friendly and knowledgeable staff very good facilities very good selection at breakfast although improvements could be easily made.

PortugalMy best experience in Portugal in the last 15 years. This hotel is a diamond in a medieval town, in the historic centre on the town square. The soundproofing is perfect, and I had the best breakfast of my life, with a variety of fresh products. The restaurant is very good with very affordable prices. The staff is amazing.
